Go Micheal!
  11:09am
James:

Well, it was fun while it lasted.
Human race 20000BC?-2011
  11:18am
Peter:

Michael - You mean this calculation for computing end of world is incorrect?

  11:20am
hamburger / london:

hmph. I'm glad I recorded a show I went to because I wouldn't have had a chance to hear it anywhere else again..
  11:22am
Peter:

These days people often first discover artists via YouTube.
  11:27am
Peter:

Did anyone capture Rebecca singing it on their iPhone? :)
  11:28am
hamburger / london:

second most disliked video on youtube after justin bieber's baby
  11:29am
on the brink:

et tu fmu?
  11:29am
lewis:

Brings a big smile to my face!!
  11:29am
hamburger / london:

hahaha
  11:30am
Robert:

What's interesting about this one is the way its video version is not so BAD IMO, but formulaic to the point of looking as if it was extremely studied to match a genre.
  11:31am
seang:

that Vanessa Carlton song is better--- a thousand miles
  11:31am
hamburger / london:

the jimmy fallon / stephen colbert cover of this was AWESOME...
  11:31am
Robert:

It does look like a parody, not necessarily self-parody. I don't find it annoying the way some people do, apparently.
  11:31am
Pat:

This is song is a waste of everyone's time. Pleas stop.
  11:32am
solhnyc:

only bested by the GLEE cover version...
  11:32am
James:

Lip-reading parody is great-Gang fight!
  11:33am
C:

I completely agree with Michael. Sounds like a rawer version of aTop 40.
  11:33am
Robert:

Seems everyone else got the idea too that it was to parody a genre, huh?
  11:33am
Frank:

Is the word you're looking for SNARKY?
  11:33am
Peter:

The song is the epitome of 'Sweet Life of Zack and Cody', and other Disney Channel stuff.

A tween acting 'grown up', but when they say 'the weekend' it's a metaphor for an ice-cream party, not for sex/adult relationships.
  11:35am
Pat:

Just because someone asks a question you don't have to answer it.
  11:36am
Peter:

My question...

Groups like Smashmouth, Sugar Ray, Barenaked Ladies.. they seem to constitute some kind of genre..

Do the WGME agree it constitutes a genre, and if so, do they have a better term than what I call it - New York Sports Club music?
  11:36am
C:

The song of that genre that surprised me with the lyrics is Party in the USA. I think the lyrics in that are pretty good because it doesn't substitute ice-cream party for kegger.
  11:38am
fred:

China Crisis and the Railway Children were 80s bands and they're still good.
  11:39am
Fran:

I think that stuff falls under what they used to call in the 90's "modern rock", which was ironically neither....
  11:42am
James:

Is licensing a song for a tv commercial selling out?
  11:43am
hamburger / london:

depends on the ad? I don't know...
  11:43am
David Baker:

Hey... sat here in England, it's almost 5pm, sun shining, wanting listen to music - and you know what...? I would be nice to hear some music instead of chat... Is this still a MUSIC show?
  11:46am
David Baker:

OK... I get it - no music, just some guys loving their own voices... So, I'll change to radio paradise... that's http://www.radioparadise.com - and guess what? It's music.
  11:48am
~L:

I think an integral part of this show has always been the interviews, today's show is great! You can listen to music every minute of everyday, but who can put it all into perspective for you, these guys talking today!!!
  11:49am
Steve:

Lovin the sandwich!
  11:49am
Rachael:

It's kinda like a musical My Dinner with Andre. I love it.
  11:49am
hamburger / london:

next time I get a sandwich I don't like I'm definitely complaining to the sandwich :)
  11:49am
The Stand:

This show is terrific - listen every week, great to hear the experts.
  11:51am
hamburger / london:

(aloud and in public. I don't care!)
  11:53am
gene sculatti:

You guys yakking is great. Don't listen to the haters!
  11:53am
Pat:

Musicians should make money at making music. Regardless of what it is.
  11:54am
Peter:

In the 60's, the Beach Boys did cool commercials and station IDs.
  11:55am
James:

Pink Moon advert
  11:56am
joe:

Ramones Malt Liquor commercials
  11:57am
Aaron in Minneapolis:

All Shook Up was written for Soda Pop
  11:58am
Fran:

Well, does the music belong to the artist, to do as they please, or to the audience that gives it cultural value?
  12:03pm
David Baker:

gene - don't hate it - just want some cool music - that's why I tune to WFMU...
  12:04pm
Robert:

The trouble is that last song lulled me to sleep so I lost track and didn't get the gag from the last line.
  12:04pm
Aaron in Minneapolis:

David there is an alternate stream here, Inchaban music, cool music not talking!
  12:10pm
Robert:

Darn, now I'm tryin g to look up the lyrics of that one so I can get the joke, but it seems there's another "The Cave" that gets in the way of the search.
  12:11pm
James:

The Smithereens don't always drink beer, but when they do, they drink Dos Equis.
  12:11pm
Peter:

I love the Hollies "Air That I Breathe",
  12:15pm
Europe:

The Final Countdown!!!!
  12:16pm
Robert:

Now I see the problem: I keep getting Johnny Paycheck mixed up with Johnny Cash. (And then there's my friend John Pachak.)
  12:35pm
(another) fred:

I'm just checking in, but the playlist and terrible video have cleared me of a delusion: I've been hearing a lot about "friday" and "get down" lately, and I was wondering whether that was about Murray Saul.
Oh well, I'm not all that optimistic about getting rid of the fundies either
  12:47pm
hamburger / london:

can't believe this is the dude from the 'just like booker t said' lyric from VU!
  12:48pm
David Baker:

Aaron - thanks for that... sometimes you just want music.
  12:52pm
Red:

this is great radio
  12:57pm
hamburger / london:

thanks for an awesome show Michael Shelley and TWGME!
  12:57pm
drr:

this Booker T. is kind of Meters-y.
  7:06pm
jay murphree:

C'mon, Michael. You know you like that "Friday" song. It's the "Bedroom Intruder" of 2011!
  7:20pm
jay murphree:

Oh, and thanks for using my question. Completely agree with everyone's answers. The discussion of selling out/what your show is all about was perfect and why I love this show!
