Listener comments!

  12:37am
john:

All of them are neat, but "armadillo" is downright compelling.
  12:40am
Ike:

Hearing Tom Crowe again after all these years is really nifty.
  1:08am
Ike:

On his show the other day, Fabio said it was a big American car but he couldn't remember the make and model. I think.
  1:24am
Danne D:

Ike and John holding it down in the comments board - nice. One of the most fun times I had was volunteering some crazy overnight marathon shift with Rich where things were steadily quiet and then like 5 phones rang all at the same time - chaos :) Let's get the emcee and DJ on the phones! 800-989-9368!
  1:25am
Danne D:

CROWE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know who Tom Crowe is :)
He is a big time legend on FMU. Missed you on the Sarge shift this year which I know you've down for in the past.
  1:29am
Danne D:

which I know you've COME down for in the past.

For those who don't know Crowe here's a link to his archives (well the ones that are there)

  1:31am
Danne D:

This reminds me a little of "Eruption" from ELP's Tarkus album (no I'm not kidding)
  1:33am
john:

I had to tune out for a bit 'cause I'm finishing up a guitar amp build, but I'm apparently still holding it down in the comments. Back to listening in a few!
  1:34am
Robert:

Danne D, We know you're really 3 volunteers writing under one name.
  1:36am
Danne D:

LOL Robert. I assure you that I'm one person. I'm listening at home right now.
Will be volunteering tomorrow on Terre's shift.

May be wrong about it being "Eruption" - might actually be "Tank" - but definitely Tarkus. (more ELP play on FMU btw than you might think)
  1:37am
Danne D:

And now I'm two people. How will you know who's posting? It's all postmodern and stuff. Deal with it.
  1:39am
Danne D:

(that was not me)
  1:40am
Danne D:

I hope the faker at least pledges too.
  1:42am
Robert:

Danne D #1, how many flights up is it to the phone room?
  1:44am
Robert:

Danne D #2, where is the nearest fire extinguisher in relationship to your most recent post?
  1:44am
Robert:

Will the real Danne D please stand up?
  1:45am
Danne D #6:

No.
  1:45am
Robert:

Bud Colyer was an alum of my school.
  1:46am
Danne D:

LOL - going all "To Tell The Truth". The phone room is on the 4th floor btw.

Maybe we can get Crowe a show on one of the internet streams - that'd be excellent.

I'm the real Danne D but I'm too tired to get up.

Love the old school game shows - To Tell the Truth and What's My Line were the best.
  1:47am
Danne D:

Loved Concentration as a kid too.
My mom was actually on the original Jeopardy with Art Fleming and won 3 days.
  1:48am
Robert:

Why did Kitty Carlisle always have to write Roman "I" instead of "1"? She didn't write "II" or "III", only "2" or "3". I hated that. And she was right more often than the others too. Grrrrr.
  1:55am
Danne D:

They discuss that here Robert:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=22814

I have to say I've always been fascinated by the whole Dorothy Kilgallen backstory.

Tons of great episodes on youtube
  1:57am
Danne D:

People need to be calling - make all those people eating in the background put down the turkey leg and take a call. Plus if enough phones ring you'll get to talk to Crowe. That's worth pledging alone right there.
  1:57am
conor:

Night of the Hunter is one of the best movies of all time. Terrifying, suspenseful, creepy... apparently, character actor James Gleason (Birdie) is a relative of mine...
  1:59am
Danne D:

That's pretty cool, conor

  2:02am
Danne D:

http://wfmu.org/artistbrowser.php?action=artist&artist=Toto&artist_id=33807

8 plays for Toto since '03. Bennett4Senate has played "Africa" within the last year actually...
  2:15am
conor:

danne d- yes, pretty cool; the last living relative that knew the details died a few years ago. She knew that he was named Gleason and was in "The Last Hurrah"
  2:27am
jeff-m:

cheers man
  2:36am
kim:

it`s "his" mouse
  2:43am
Art Lessing:

hey you guys are playing a great show...I would donate one of my records to give away but I don't know how....
  3:02am
Danne D:

Congrats Rich!
Great Job Crowe! (Please don't be a stranger sir - we miss you around these parts)

Cheers!
  3:04am
Danne D:

@art
You can donate records to the station to sell at the record fair - info here: http://wfmu.org/Help/donate.html

As far as the prizes go, they are donated by labels, etc - but you can check with the powers that be ahead of the next marathon about donating them as a prize (there are so many that keeping track is a big job so it's undoable mid-marathon)
  3:04am
Danne D:

And thanks Art :) and everyone!
