First?
  3:02pm
rrg:

First.
  3:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yeah glaucoma! Because medical weed will make it look better still! But you might have to take that Satanic glaucoma test....(shudder)
  3:04pm
Jive Turkey:

Happy Thanksviking
  3:06pm
M Signal:

This Headlights track is great. Haven't heard of them, so thanks for the intro!
  3:08pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

this guy's got it goin' on
  3:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: It's like rap for Python fans!
  3:14pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

it seems the work for the day is about done. now it's ass-sittin' clock-killin' time.
  3:15pm
Ike:

Prof. Elemental has the best album title of the week/month/year, too. Steampunks love giant clackety old mechanical devices like difference engines.
  3:16pm
Robert:

Was he the same one with the mustache, monkey, and monocle?
  3:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

Gordon Lightfoot Bumper Music Wednesday? Is WFMU now under CanCon (Canadian-content) rules?

Well, then I would recommend "Sundown", "If You Could Read My Mind", "Happy Birthday", and "76 Trombones" (SCTV ref)
  3:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

I love when Alasdair does spoken-word pieces.
  3:32pm
Mike East:

hell yes tears for fears!
  3:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

Every Mother's Son--you all would probably know them for the "Come on down to my boat baby" song. If they did more songs like this, then I seriously should check them out.
  3:38pm
rrg:

"One hit wonders" usually have more than one worthy song to their credit if you bother to go looking.
  3:39pm
rrg:

1967 was the date of that album (it says here).
  3:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

@rrg: That's usually the case--and I end up liking such One Hit Wonders' "other" songs more. Mr. Mister ("Broken Wings") did an awesome follow up "Kyrie" which is sadly not played much anymore.
  3:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Irwin: You can also get all your "etcetera-in" free now. Mint chocolate chip for me.
  3:44pm
AnAnonymousParty:

Won't unlimited ice cream make us all obese and diabetic and lead to increased costs that will overwhelm our shiny new health care system? Shouldn't the government be imposing new taxes for that reason? Think about the children!
  3:45pm
Tea Party Fantasy:

we will shrink your dink so that we may drown it in a bathtub
  3:47pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

this sounds like the kind of tune that gets co-opted to sell coffee or soap detergent
  3:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

King Floyd! Do you have "Baby Let Me Kiss You"? That's King Floyd's "other" song--don't know if I like it more, but I loved it when I heard it once.
  3:48pm
Vinyl:

I loooove this song!
  3:48pm
Denise in DC:

Me too! I remember it from my misspent yout.
  3:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: It was, in fact, low fat yogurt or something circa 2002. Hmm, at least "Baby Let Me Kiss You" is less likely to be co-opted. (Janis Joplin's estate giving "Mercedes Benz" to the real Mercedez Benz in the 90s)
  3:49pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

if you're not "misspending" your yout you're not really spending it at all
  3:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

There are two ways to feasibly give free ice cream for life:
1) Define lifetime commitment as something every year (like at your birthday! That is a swell idea!) And
2) a Faustian-like bargain where you would have to eat ice cream continuously until you died, thus saving on future health care costs!
  3:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

80s synth-drums! One of my fav Wednesday sounds! Bring it, SISTAH!
  3:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ha ha! It's a tribute to the Addams Family Lurch!
  3:55pm
Denise in DC:

DCE: I misspent my yout by spending my Saturday nights in front of the boob tube with my mother, snarfing down ice cream. What a waste.
  3:56pm
dan from Toronto:

I hear stuff by Amanda on WFMU all the time and it is so delightfully outsidery and excellent. Is this stuff available for purchase anywhere?
  3:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

DANGEROUS GIRLS!!! Perfect Thanksgiving punk song!
  3:59pm
AnAnonymousParty:

I could go for a fried sandwich right about now.
  3:59pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

going home early you turkeys have a nice holiday!
  3:59pm
rrg:

Dan: our host will tell you, but: there are some Amanda tracks in the WFMU Free Music Archive. Otherwise you need to pledge at least $75 to WFMU to get Irwin's Marathon Premium.

Something like that.
  4:00pm
nestor:

max rocks :)
thanks brm
  4:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Denise: it might not be glamorous, but "life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."
@DCE: Have a great Thanksgiving!
@AAP: Don't even!
  4:02pm
dan from Toronto:

Ossum re. Amanda being on the blog and FMA, thanks for clarifying!
  4:02pm
Denise in DC:

Bye DCE! Have a great holiday!
  4:02pm
Parq:

Irwin, while we're on the subject, I really enjoyed your Amanda piece for the FMA. You did a nice job of addressing why her stuff is genuinely worth celebrating, while acknowledging views of certain listeners to the contrary.
  4:04pm
rrg:

Bob. Wow.
  4:09pm
Dr. Strangelove:

Stupid losing hand.
  4:11pm
formerly known as the soundguy at the court taver:

this is such a great song. i like jeremy.
  4:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

Good Joe Jackson--this apparently is quite recent, from 2008.
  4:29pm
ScottC:

You're not a boss but you play one on radio... I'm going home now-oh wait I'm already there!
  4:29pm
Denise in DC:

If we're talking about Irwin's outside ventures, I'll mention that I was listening to a Coverville podcast that featured Eagles tunes, and was pleased to hear that host Brian Ibbott included the version of Desperado from the Langley Schools Music Project. http://coverville.com/archives/podcast/coverville-720-the-eagles-cover-story/
  4:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

Mmmm, first time hearing Twin Sister. This is cool, trancy stuff!
  4:37pm
ted:

I first heard of Marching Band from Irwin playing it.
Thanks, they're catchy as all hell!
  4:39pm
Denise in DC:

I learn about so much stuff from Irwin playing it . . .
  4:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

Don't we all!
  4:45pm
rrg:

Most new things newer than about 1975 I hear about first from Irwin.
  4:50pm
Denise in DC:

Irwin introduced me to the wonders of Alvin Dahn, Li'l Markie, Judson Fountain . . .
  4:52pm
rrg:

...Professor Elemental...
  4:54pm
Karmic Assignments Dept:

According to our database, you refused to help a small business 11 years ago by adding a lifetime warranty for $20 to a purchase. With inflation and protection from future misslips, a $35 ticket was issued, and your karma is now reset. Next person, please.
  4:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Rock the house, Professor!
  4:57pm
Denise in DC:

. . . Joanna Newsom . . .
  4:57pm
Denise in DC:

Hey! We're listing reasons to be thankful for Irwin!
  4:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

... Too many to note; Marco B, the Cli-en-tele, the Fields, both Magnetic and Elysian ...
  4:59pm
rrg:

...Raveonettes...
  4:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

... And I'm also thankful for Irwin's re-airing of classic gems like "Bike" that don't have a home on radio anymore! ...
  4:59pm
?:

whoa, ninth grade flashback happening right now . . .
  5:00pm
drewo:

OK, I'll have to put the Professor Elemental disc on my holiday wish list.
  5:00pm
rrg:

..Pink Floyd...
  5:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

@rrg: Seriously? Or do you mean Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd?
  5:03pm
Denise in DC:

. . . Marco Benevento . . .
  5:04pm
ng:

Hey! Stop knocking my socks off with every song!
  5:05pm
Denise in DC:

. . . and, of course, Amanda.
  5:05pm
rrg:

Sometime I make a little joke.

"Extremely little, Ensign."
  5:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

... Don't forget the incorrect musicians: "Thomas Rewrites The Beatles", Neil Dick, "Closet Queen", Ms. "Mr. Snuggles" ...
  5:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

@ng: I concur!
@Denise: Completely gave life to Amanda, the Langley Schools Project, oh don't forget Jandek!
  5:07pm
Denise in DC:

Jandek! And R. Stevie Moore!
  5:08pm
Denise in DC:

Shooby Taylor, the Human Horn!
  5:08pm
Denise in DC:

Eilert Pilarm! And the inimitable Y. BHEKHIRST!
  5:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

Bob Gaudio: C'mon Frankie, if we act now we could release the 374th Dylan cover album. No one wants to be the 375th...
  5:10pm
Morquey Nelly and Rolf:

I met Kathy from the valli, and it was closer to 3
  5:10pm
Irwin:

I coaxed the Old Codger out of retirement. Some might not tally that a net plus.
  5:12pm
Denise in DC:

Irwin, even this government drone can't come up with a positive spin on that "accomplishment."
  5:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Since we're at it Denise, here's from a private email to Irwin where I praised him for most of the acts I learned only through him:

"From the "fun" side: Amanda, Jessica Kane, Mark Turns, Joan Marie Polo, Katinka, The GTOs, Fred Lane, Charlie McAlister, "Beatles Re-writer" Thomas, Ms. "Mr. Snuggles", "Closet Queen", and the Amateur Hour in general. To the "beautiful" side: The "Cli-en-tele", Citay, Magnetic Fields, Julian Lynch, Amy Annelle (my Cimarron Banks and other CDs FINALLY arrived this Wed!), Linda Perhacs, Ruthann Friedman, Tom Rush, the Scala Choir, Army Navy, Tokyo Police Club, Look Blue Go Purple (and by extension--ALL of 80s Flying Nun/Kiwi Rock, which other 'FMU DJs were more than happy to encourage as well), Tame Impala, Lane Steinberg, and so many more I now know only because of YOUR show! Keep up that voo-doo that you do so well, Mr. DJ!"
  5:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

Cookie Santa only delivers in Cookieland however.
  5:13pm
Denise in DC:

<applauds>
  5:14pm
AnAnonymousParty:

Ken DeFeudis, who somehow led me here.
  5:14pm
Denise in DC:

The applause was for the list, not for Cookie Santa's limited delivery area.
  5:15pm
Stanley:

We used to go down thw pub a lot in those days....
  5:17pm
Denise in DC:

Okay, fellow and sister listeners, and Our DJ: I'm heading home from work almost two hours early. Have a lovely and safe holiday.
  5:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Denise: Don't worry, I thought it was safe to assume that!
@AAP: Oh, since you're still here, I do in fact like Charlie McAlister (of "fried sandwich" fame), I just find that a patience-testing piece, not suitable for holiday times!
  5:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

Have a great holiday Denise!
  5:21pm
Morquey Nelly and Rolf:

that's the way I like Dylan to touch my heart
  5:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

Actually I thought that was impressive, Irwin. I meant there's not much originality (conceptually) in doing an album in the 60s devoted to Dylan covers.

But now that you're going to swat me, let's BRING IT! Grease your flyswatters and get ready to RUMBLE!
  5:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Church! All is forgiven with you Irwin! Except maybe the hundreds of swats in this recent sparing match...
  5:38pm
Morquey Nelly and Rolf:

that church cut cured my puppy tooth
  5:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

Puppy tooth?
  5:40pm
trs:

Thanks Irwin.
  5:44pm
Morquey Nelly and Rolf:

Rolf's
he's rotten
  5:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, it cures puppy's teeth over the radio! Check out the "Remote Luxury" album, it might cure the teeth of every person/pet in the room!
  5:48pm
sully:

I flipped on Am radio the other night and Coast to Coast AM was chatting with someone about Jim Sullivan
  5:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

AM radio, the ghetto where Cousin Brucie and Murray the K once had swinging flats, now limited to Rush's storefront church and hobos sitting around a fire at night talking conspiracies. Poetic justice? Doesn't matter, since 'FMU's the only station really worth listening to anymore.
  5:56pm
Rolf:

Thanks Matt--
  5:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

You're welcome Rolf!
  5:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Great show as always! Irwin, commenters, broadcast listeners, archive listeners, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Here's a blessing, with respect of course to Andy B:
May my Thanksgiving succeed
And may the Thanksgivings of my friends fail,
And yet may I still be perceived
As a "Team Player".
  6:34am
listener monica:

thanks for playing ths sock monkees. !!!
