  3:08pm
Cecile:

How's LAK (life after kenny) treating you, Irwin?
  3:10pm
Ike:

I love this School of Seven Bells song.

Irwin, have you heard of Great Northern and the Joy Formidable? You might like those bands.
  3:12pm
Paul Simon:

Cecilia!
  3:14pm
Cecile:

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
  3:15pm
G:

Those aren't margin problems--that's our comments board
  3:16pm
Ike:

Oh, and hey 3:07, what did that city ever do to deserve getting such a shitty milquetoast band named after them? ;)
  3:17pm
Boston:

At least we have good taste in female names. Google the lyrics.
  3:18pm
dc pat:

hey if it wasn't for Boston and all those other bands that sound just like them, there would be no punk rock. Gotta take the yang with the yin Ike.
  3:19pm
Neeks:

Where can I steal some Perennial Divide?
  3:20pm
Cecile:

I think More than a Feeling is a brilliant single.
I speak this from the bottom of my hesher-fellow-traveler heart.
  3:24pm
Cecile:

I need that Rec rec sampler
  3:25pm
Ike:

DC Punk, excellent point, and Alan Watts would approve.
  3:26pm
MJ:

*I* don't even care! :-P
  3:27pm
Graeme:

Molly Sugden from Are You Being Served has died, the BBC have just announced.
  3:27pm

You played this last week before we knew he would die the next day - maybe he was mad
  3:31pm
BSI:

Holy salivating penguin tarts!
Where the hell have I BEEN!??
  3:31pm
Cecile:

I don't know. Good to see you BSI!
  3:32pm
Parq:

@Ike, 3:17: the answer is, they hosted the kind of nascent tech boom that drives people to think that a rock album made by an MIT grad in his suburban basement is cool, no matter that it *sounds* like an album made in an MIT grad's 'burban basement. And punk preceded that album by at least two years. Just sayin'.
  3:35pm
slugluv1313:

former boxing champion Alexis Arguello was found dead from a gunshot wound to the chest: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090701/ap_on_sp_bo_ne/box_arguello_dead

G:

The girl is not my son? DUH.
  3:38pm
BSI:

god it's amazing...
i've got about five tabs open, playing this youtube dude at different points while Irwin plays it........... it's like a roller-coaster of audio velveeta.
  3:38pm
Ganjibus Gorilla:

Oh the humanity!
  3:38pm
Cecile:

he is really really bad.
  3:39pm

  3:52pm
Mike:

Oh sorry, I meant the song "Mad" that Irwin played... the Boston song's a classic, too.
  3:53pm
doug from dc:

I know, just having some fun with links. I should have used a tinyURL, that would have been more effective.
  3:55pm
Master Bates:

I'm having fun with my link too
  3:56pm
Parq:

Love this number. Was 11 in 1967 myself. But I never had a brother like Martin. No, I never had a brother like him.
  3:57pm
Trout Amand-ine:

The guy who posted Amanda videos to the youtubes in the first place ("jerserf") has put up a link on prior Irwin comments lists to his website with other performances from her. Try looking for the link in comments from 2-4 weeks ago.
  4:00pm
annie:

see, i listening to another station now cause i know if i tune in fmu irwin will put amanda on again... just so ya know, i'm loyal, but not masochistic.
  4:01pm
Amanda:

{screeching} You're just JEALOUUUUUSSSSS!!!!!!
  4:01pm
Amanda Fan Club:

Here's one link - but I'm Mad is not on it.
http://www.myspace.com/memedacookie
Irwin is she still coming to visit her brother?
  4:02pm
dc pat:

that's weird because Amanda is the ONE thing on which I agree with Irwin...
  4:02pm
Turbo:

Hi Irwin! Have you and Michelle ever considered doing a "Incorrect music" reunion show?
  4:04pm
annie:

weird pat, just plain weird.. but i'll still like you...
  4:08pm
doug from dc:

Cello Song, nice cover of an old fave. I heard someone else cover this recently, can't remember who.
  4:08pm
G:

Yeah, some Amanda items played on this show do not seem to be on youtube or myspace. I suspect Irwin and jerserf have an exclusivity agreement. :-P
  4:08pm
aMANda:

worship me cookie...
  4:10pm
Mike:

Yeah can't seem to find that one in particular. Ah well I can direct people to playlists I suppose. thanks for the links, folks.
  4:13pm
Cecile:

this guy isnt' really terrible. What happened, Irwin?
  4:16pm
Neeks:

Please don't sing..
  4:17pm
BSI:

...too late...
  4:18pm
G:

There's a whole a range of singing ability in the populace. They're not all horrible. Some surprise you with some nice bits among some drecky bits, when they sing.

Just like anything in life.
  4:21pm
BSI:

EFFIN' YEH!
NICK the EFFIN' BARD!!!!!!
  4:21pm
Troublemaker:

Didn't you and Kenny G ever duet something Michael Jacksony?
  4:23pm
John:

This is awesome! Please tell Nick I really enjoyed his singing on "Rainbow Connection" with The Muppets.
  4:24pm
BSI:

Nick's metal voice is needed here.
  4:25pm
scott:

this is like kermit from the muppet babies singing with voldemort
  4:28pm
Peteski:

This is the show Kenny would've done if he was still with us
  4:31pm
G:

Don't cry for Kenny G, Argentina. He's a visiting prof at Princeton next academic year.
  4:36pm
Dave B in NYC:

YEAH!
  4:36pm
Amanda:

I'm teaching music history at Yale in 2010.
  4:38pm
Lizardner Dave:

The armpit farts add a subtle, almost Debussy-like nuance to this piece.
  4:38pm
Jennique:

You played her version of Mad last week before all the news about MJ and I have not been able to get her out of my head! She's tha bomb.
  4:38pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Amanda is awesome!
  4:39pm
Parq:

Dang, I was walking the dog when Bard sang -- I'm out of the room for all the good stuff today! Sigh.
  4:39pm
Nick the Bard:

You only WISH I'd do Muppet songs...
  4:40pm
Amanda Fan Club:

This has to be the most eclectic set ever
  4:40pm
John:

It's Not Easy Being Green?
  4:42pm
GP:

I would not doubt it Amanda, I had to leave to get an education.
  4:42pm
John:

Was that Mark E. Smith's junior high garage band?
  4:42pm
Nick the Bard:

All the Muppet stuff I'm most familiar with is from Muppet Babies, and Lemmy help us all if I sing any of that annoying ass shit.
  4:43pm
Kermit:

Green..meh. Everything is green this or green that these days...I just want you to remember who started it all bub...
  4:45pm
John:

Lemmy + Muppet Babies = Dynamite Entertainment!
Irwin? Can ya mash it up?
  4:46pm
Nickname Police:

Congrats. You are now Nick the Enchanting Chanteuse and Charming Sourbrette
  4:47pm
Lou Reed's Lyricist:

Eeeeeeeeeeee. Eeeeee. Eeeeee. Eeeeeeeeeeeeee.
  4:47pm
Cecile:

that will be the show I will watch the comments section and listen to Pandora
  4:49pm
Cecile:

hey, it's my birthday twin
  4:50pm
Ike:

Pandora?! Really Cecile? You let a computer be your DJ sometimes?! Ugh. I always choose my fellow humans as DJs. (This is assuming that I really *am* human... which could be a big leap, I know.)

Nice Johnny Paycheck!
  4:51pm
J-Mar:

hey Cecile -- I'm right there listening too! Thanks, Irwin, for playing Mr. Paycheck. Hard to beat the Little Darlin stuff he did. Oh, hell, yes, you're playing two tracks off this disc!
  4:52pm
Cecile:

Ike. Pandora has turned me onto some wonderful artists. And why not? I like the random-ness and surprise, and sometimes when I'm in a mood, trying to play "screw with Pandora!"
  4:52pm
GP:

Johnny Paycheck..sounds good....memories of a wasted youth are flooding back...now there is a tear in my beer.
  4:53pm
Jerserf:

Hey Irwin - Jody here... just sent you three new Amanda tracks! :) GREAT SHOW!!!
  4:53pm
GP:

Jody..hook us up!
  4:53pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I dunno, with all the great non-profit and college stations around, I haven't had to turn to Pandora in three or four years now. There's always SOMETHING on!
  4:54pm
Ike:

Hallelujah DCE!
  4:55pm
Cecile:

I didn't realize that choosing Pandora was a sign of moral turpitude. Oh, well.
  4:55pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

You're OK Cecile!
  4:56pm
annie:

i love pandora!
  4:57pm
Cecile:

besides it lets me start stations from the seeds of Antibalas, Sylvester and War. THAT is a kickass station, robot or not.
  4:58pm
Ike:

I hope I didn't imply moral turpitude. (Wow, nice phrasing!) I just like to support my fellow humans' radio endeavors and I oppose their outsourcing to segue-challenged robots. THE ROBOTS ARE COMING FOR THE DJs! NOOO! AIIEEE!
  5:01pm
AFC:

Jerserf - when is your seester coming? Any chance I'm Mad was not just audio?
  5:01pm
Cecile:

I think there can be a world that includes both.
  5:02pm
J-Mar:

my issue with Pandora is that after two tracks, I find that whatever it has chosen to play for me is way more boring than whatever our WFMU deejays would put on. also, the Kenny G station on Pandora sucks -- WFMU's Kenny G is way better.
  5:02pm
annie:

well, to be honest i have listened to pandora once in 6 months. i have so many internet radio options, it is a rare day when i have to resort to pandora.
  5:02pm
Ike:

(By the way, Irwin, when the robots come for you, just remember to tell them to divide something by zero. They'll stop and say, "Cannot calculate! Error! ERROR!" and then smoke will spew out and they'll explode. Snap! End of Pandora! See, who says you can't learn anything from old 1960s Dr. Who episodes?!)
  5:04pm
Cecile:

*turns on Pandora in spite, keeping up 'FMU comments page*
  5:05pm
John:

You've really opened an e-can of worms with this Pandora stuff.
  5:06pm
Jerserf:

AFC - July 10th! I'm so excited... :) GP - what's yr e-mail, I'll send you soemthing i just found...
  5:06pm
doug from dc:

You could have a station with cyborg DJs, part human and part robot. The DJs could be assimilated.
  5:07pm
Cecile:

yeah, tell me about it.

jersef, that's going to be awesome.
  5:08pm
Irwin:

That's IDDY BIDDY KIDDY on YT
  5:10pm
Parq:

I confess, I don't really know what Pandora is. FMU suits my radio needs just fine. When they're not doing something I dig, I've got my own music on CD and MP3, and sometimes I just like the silence. But whatever this Pandora is, if you dig it, mo'pwoah to ya.
  5:12pm
Cecile:

It's a randomizing computer music player you can customize with songs and artists. It can be fun.

Now, I have a hot date with this Frankie Knuckles track, so later!
  5:13pm
GP:

Jerserf..just sent it to Irwin to forward to you.

Thanks!
  5:14pm
annie:

see, right now i have new orleans on, and i am commenting here.
  5:15pm
annie:

don't be hatin'
  5:17pm
Cecile:

you are my multitasking role model
  5:18pm
annie:

(psst, cecile, i can hook you up with other stations. hehe)
  5:19pm
Parq:

So what's the diff 'twixt Pandora and, say, ITunes?
  5:21pm
AFC:

Jerserf - what's she doing the 15th between 3:00 and 6:00?
  5:21pm
annie:

pandora is based on the "genome" of the tune or song. if you click like, then they seek songs that are supposedly similar. sometimes they throw a very random thing in there, so you have to be sure to say no. otherwise they start to play shit that just doesn't fit your station style.
  5:22pm
annie:

they have classical to jazz to opera.. you can design your own station
  5:24pm
Cecile:

Yes, I hit the "no" and "pass" button a lot.
  5:25pm
annie:

there is one bugaboo about pandora that i don't like. you are not able to leave it going alone, otherwise they think you are not listening and time you out.
  5:27pm
stannerlee:

Pandora - WFMU it ain't!!!
  5:27pm
Ike:

I just worry that some kids will listen to nothing BUT Pandora and last.fm etc., and in 40 years, human radio will be totally out of style or nearly defunct. And I find them predictable, and bad at segues. Plus, dystopian thought of the day: Governments could easily filter out political music on robot stations. Humans are not always so easily cowed. But I'm probably just paranoid.
  5:28pm
Jerserf:

AFC: She'll be working unfortunately...
  5:29pm
stannerlee:

Ike - I think the entertainment corporations are doing that already
  5:29pm
DJ Three of Five:

In forty years, Pandora will be implanted into your brain. We will all DJ collectively.
  5:29pm
annie:

i hear ya ike, to be sure!! it's one of the reasons why i have been off pandora for a while, although, their selections are improving. but if i want a nice classical radio day and hate advertising, it's pandora i choose..
  5:31pm
da$eugenstein:

Amen on the trash rant
  5:33pm
AMC:

We can't let her visit to NY pass by without some sort of tribute. But what?
  5:34pm
Cecile:

I would suggest some Amanda themed art that Irwin could post. Or a remix contest?
  5:37pm
Lizardner Dave:

Thank you for introducing me to ol' Roadhog. There's some great stuff on the Youtubes and whatnot.
  5:40pm
Laura L:

Well, all right!
  5:43pm
Irwin:

This is a good'er!
  5:47pm
J-Mar:

I wonder what happens when you put Lester Roadhog Moran in Pandora?
  5:48pm
Laura L:

You shouldna hadda done that, but thanks for playin it, it's mighty fine.
  5:49pm
john d:

mighty fine, mighty fine
  5:50pm
annie:

pandora rejected that name... but will take it under advisement.
  5:57pm
Parq:

Honestly, this Pandora sounds about as exciting as satellite radio -- a new way for the industry to feed us pre-screened, pre-selected, pre-filtered Stuff for our unthinking consumption. 'Cile, if you dig it, fine, but it doesn't sound like I'm missing anything. And Ike, just because you're paranoid . . .

Love that Road Hog country music broadcast spoof. Haven't heard it in years.
  5:59pm
Cecile:

sigh. I should have just said I was turning off the sound to go murder people.
  5:59pm
G:

It's like an audio version of amazon's "Other customers who bought this item also bought these items you may like"
  6:01pm
Ike:

Parq, to be fair, people clearly like it because it gives them a measure of control (ability to skip tracks, etc.) -- and I can appreciate the desire for control -- while still getting new suggestions and not having to go to ALL that HUGE trouble of discovering new music themselves. But I think that's a smidge lazy. And its suggestions are a SNORE to me.
  6:02pm
Cecile:

You know what Ike? Get off your high horse. I buy and research more music than anyone I know, and Pandora is just another tool.
  6:05pm
slugluv1313:

Irwin, do you have links to Amanda's YouTube stuff??? ESPECIALLY the one in which she is holding a kitty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9:12pm
Michele Black:

Irwin, your show is saving our sanity, or else crumbling the remnants, we can't tell...marooned in deepest Idaho. Thank you, p.s. we love Joan Marie Polo!
