Live performance by Fern Knight (Jesse Sparhawk: harp, percission, toy piano, vocals / Margie Wienk: vocals, guitar / Jim: guitar, sundries, vocals / James Wolf: violin) |
||||||||||
This Philadelphia, PA ensemble with an ever-changing lineup is fronted by guitarist/cellist and singer Margaret Wienk, who creates delicate, organic acoustic songs orchestrated by layers of accordion/ harmonium/ electronics drones, pysch-tinged strings, canonic vocals, harp, bells and percussion and singing saw. At the heart of the songs is Margie's strong voice, cello, and guitar, leading the tunes with feeling and subtlety. While in the tradition of electric-trad legends such as Pentangle and Trees, Fern Knight's music rings of the intensely personal and is delivered with crystal clarity. Michael Patrick Brady of Brainwashed says of the ensemble, "Fern Knight draws a slow story, one that makes for an excellent tale that explores those winding forest paths and the things that lie hidden between the lines." |
