If quiet is indeed the new loud, Picastro are today's answer to Black Sabbath. Picastro began long ago in Toronto as a guitar/cello duo. Now a four-piece, the ensemble includes Liz Hysen (acoustic guitar and despairing vocals), Zak Hanna (electric guitar), Nick Storring (cello), and Brandon (drums). Picastro's music has been described this way: "These are the songs that make hearts wrench, ears bleed and eyes well with tears." A new album is in the works, and they unveiled a number of new tunes as yet untitled. Their most recent disc, "Metal Cares" is available from Polyvinyl Record Co. Liz Hysen is alwso working on a solo album with members of the folk ensemble, Espers. |
