I find this film inspiring enough to follow in its footsteps, as do many others my age. It becomes a cult favorite, and the sole influence it has is to make people read, listen, look, and watch as opposed to buy or embrace a violent political belief.

"Paterson" is a lovely film with Adam Driver as a bus driver who writes poetry. The film is simply a week in his life. He gets up. He eats cerial and chats with the wife he loves. He walks to work. He sits in the bus, waiting for his dispatcher, notebook in hand, and writes a poem. He drives a bus. He writes poetry during lunch in front of a section of a park in Paterson, New Jersey, that has a sort of waterfall. He drives the bus for the afternoon. He goes home. He eats dinner with his wife, who wants to buy the Esteban guitar course, and bakes cupcakes with the same black and white color scheme of the house she has furnished with, among other things, drapes she has sewn herself. He walks the dog, and stops at a bar for one beer. One. Then he goes home. He sits downstairs at a desk for a while, reads, and writes. He goes to bed.
Next day, he does it again.
And it is lovely, and sublime, and life affirming. Paterson, New Jersey, is apparently one of the worst places to live on many lists of such things, yet in this film, there is beauty there. Which means there's beauty pretty much anywhere.
The film about someone being inspired by this do write brief things that people enjoy reading and think about is just something that I'm trying to do at the present in my notepads and on my phone (dictation mode), and hope to share on my website.
And that's pretty much it. Now go and write something or draw something or make a film, or just listen to the dulcet tones of "Pan African Festival, Part 1," by Green Cosmos from "Abendmusiken."

The Patterson Falls are amazing to visit during a speel of freezing temps = lovely natuaral ice formations ... also,
there is good Central American food restaurants ... NJ Transit goes there...
"...The Great Falls are 77 feet high and 260 feet wide. More than 2 billion
gallons of water rush over it daily. It is the 2nd largest waterfall, by volume,
east of the Mississippi River, behind only Niagara Falls..."
[2nd largest by water volume, not height]

Oh, yes, and honestly this is not much of a spoiler: something terrible happens to him poems, and it's almost better if I tell you before: no, nothing happens. He doesn't wig out. He just sort of chills out, and...goes to work the next day, and has a lovely conversation with a guy from Japan who talks about how reading William Carlos Williams in Japanese is like showering in a raincoat.
That's what's so great. It's just a life. With poetry.

Ah, "Blue Flower" by Slapp Happy—what a wonderfully quirky and captivating track. The song has this surreal, dreamlike quality that’s hard to pin down, blending avant-garde experimentation with a melancholy beauty. Dagmar Krause’s haunting vocals give it an almost otherworldly feel, as if she’s singing from a space just outside of time, while the minimal instrumentation perfectly underscores the mood without overwhelming it.
The Sort Of album is a fascinating listen overall, with its mix of art rock, cabaret, and a touch of whimsical absurdity. If you enjoy "Blue Flower", you might also dig deeper into their other albums, like Acnalbasac Noom, where the band further hones their idiosyncratic sound. Another gem to check out is "Casablanca Moon", which has a similarly evocative, storytelling vibe.
For something in the same vein, you could explore early Eno, particularly Here Come the Warm Jets or Another Green World. They share that spirit of blending the experimental with the melodic, creating something deeply evocative yet accessible.
Blue Flower feels like the kind of song that stays with you long after it ends, quietly blooming in your mind—a perfect soundtrack for those moments when life feels both a little strange and a little magical.

Thank you too for the keen perspective. Although I'm open to life-long self-improvement, my motivation to ask you about the film, is my, sadly, directionless nephew. At a young age he lost both of his parents and has fallen into a pit a despair.
I'm hoping we can help turn things around for him and your inspiring posts may also help. Gracie!
I know Paterson well, btw, my folks and my grandfolks are buried there in the gigantic old Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
Good day and thanks again!
