NEW ORDER ILLUSTRÉ (run time: 33 minutes)
On September 26, 1980, the band New Order made its New York City debut. This director's cut of their historic full concert features commentary by bassist Peter Hook. It marks the first recording of the band as they struggled to find their voice following lead singer lan Curtis' untimely death. Like an illuminated tome, Aldighieri embellishes her original concert video with experimental graphics, animations, and explorations of painter L.S. Lowry's work. Lowry, who passed away just a few years before Curtis, created art inspired by the same industrial region of England. New Order's music brought a new soundscape to the region, much as Lowry baptized its landscapes in art.
The film's concert setlist features "In a Lonely Place," "Procession," "Dreams Never End," "Mesh," "Truth," "Cries an, Whispers," and "Ceremony."

I attended one of the 1981 concerts at the Peppermint Lounge & the show was so brief & lowkey & subtle, we didn’t quite know what to make of it. It was at the same time as the 1st album “Movement” had arrived. Later we realized we had been witness to the beginning of a new post punk, new wave, electro pop rock hybrid that we weren’t expecting. Cool Beans!
