Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Hearing you comment regarding what you like about demo's made me think a bit about why I am enjoying these so much. One thing is that many of them sound like how I have most enjoyed music, listening in person in rehearsal as a musician or friend of the band. Better sound than most any live venue. More comfortable than most any live venue. Hearing the music the people are making not what the team thought a finished product for radio or commerce should sound like at any particular time and place.

But obvsly he's jealous of Zep succeeding hugely in a format hugely influenced by TheWho. & I think intends to be transparent about all aspects of that...
As for shining examples of humanity - sadly, out believed Art & Culture of Rawk may not be the most fertile incubator...
Myself - TheWho crashed into the center of my heart spontaneously. Zep I always liked but never fell in love with the same way. Something less original ...even see Page as an usurper of Beck in the yARdbiRdS. But - play them. I'll probly enjoy it...

& TheWho have had massive success in the Charts - before & during Zep's existence - & if you're unfamiliar with TheWho's body of work beyond Commercial Radio (is what you imply) - then I posit this is no measure of their relevance (& would be true also os Zep ...tho I myself am aware enuff of their entire oeuvre as well...)
TheWho were very broadly exalted as contender for Best Live Band ever - & so on. As for Townshend critiquing Zep on moral grounds ...I'm not familiar with this.

John Paul Jones like Page was a great Session player. He has Arranging abilities & things... Plant a remarkable Vocalists - especially early when his chords were young... Bonham is very widely regarded as Great indeed - with Power, Funk & Tone all in his corner. Not especially innovative or versatile to my reckoning... Page did have his own style - but - like Zep generally - is widely regarded as a magpie - even a thief - as far as emulating other Players (Bert Jansch, whomever)...

TheWho relate to PowerPop (which insignificant Townshend named) - PUNK - & Alternative in other ways - & in their relation to Culture & the Audience. While also pioneering RawkOpera & Rawk as Theatre... & Synths ...& yes is relevant as Writer in how Rawk relates to Spirituality & Politically - in ways Zep never even attempted.
A similar as they are otherwise...
