Don't know if there is a term for the moment of disorientation when hearing something familiar in different context. For me it is an interesting sensation and pleasurable experience except when one cannot figure out why the music is familiar.

As a person whose sole access to all and any culture was a wall of album covers in the only record store in a very remote town with nothing, I embrace the potency of the reproduction whole-heartedly. as far as reproduction goes, i think there is something of, maybe a suspension of disbelief, to use a basic film term, regarding the artwork's aura, meaning the point of the works origin doesn't need to be present and it's origin can be intuited by just reflecting on one's own involvement in the machinations of capitalism and seeing it as analogous to the creation of the artwork...

Discomfort features prominently in far-reaching thought experiments; even a modicum of lunacy lingers in the intellectualism borne out of the roiling decades of socio-political chaos that produced Benjamin. Context has to be considered always when reading that stuff. His. And ours.

In that sense, it's possible that you're both getting at the most important idea at the core of all this that needed (and still needs) to be deeply considered. What is the nature of the reproduction of ideas? And how am I deeply implicated? And what does it mean? And where does it ultimately go? And who and what does it (do I) serve?

I have to take a short sabbatical to sweep snow off my stairs and walk. It will probably melt late this afternoon, but I should probably reduce my liability before then. Please hold all fart-related comments until my return.
