Great question, Sean! Apple Music is certainly better than Spotify (we do not work with Spotify anymore, stopped in 2019) but all streaming is a pittance. Bandcamp, although far from perfect, is definitely better for artists, I think. And it's our go-to as listeners, too - that's where we buy most of the records we get turned on to these days. The listening parties are a great feature, too. We had one yesterday for the release of SKY and are planning our annual one for our Christmas album (TIL MORNING IS NIGH) on Dec 21...

Bandcamp pays the highest percentage to the artist. Although I haven't put this recording on Distrokid, yet, it does have a wider reach sending to spotify, itunes, youtube, etc. so the potential is to reach more people, but the financial payout is a fraction of a penny. To be honest, i never expected to make any money doing this, especially at my age. I was just hoping people would give a listen, so I'm very appreciative to Irene, and all of you to lend an ear!

When I was in law school, my crappy apartment building had a crappy parking lot with not enough spaces, and indoor parking that cost almost as much as my rent so that was a no-go. I needed the car for school. Same outdoor parking was also where 2 huge dumpsters were. Both were always closed, but I found out that 1 was always left empty for some reason. They were at the far end of the not very big lot. So, I got into the habit of parking as close to the dumpsters as possible, and if I had to go somewhere (grocery shopping, a hearing on the Hill for class, etc) I would push the empty dumpster into my spot. In the 2 years I was in that building, I can count on one hand the number of times that anybody else bothered to get out and move the dumpster and steal my stolen spot! :)

Even though I love all of Johnny's electric playing from Extrapolation all the way to today, although his tone was a little bit to be desired for a spell, but got better on the last Shakti recording, as I loved his out of control, holding on for dear life tone from M.O. and Lifetime, along with the Miles and Santana, and the very underrated One Truth Band records...BUT, it's his acoustic playing which will remain timeless, the original Shakti being my favorite as it rivals the Mahavishnu stuff in total impact. I saw Shakti at the Bottom Line the day Handful of Beauty came out for $6.00! The boys were on another level! I do also like the Trilok era. No matter the bass player at that time, they were all playing on such a high level...One of the most endearing things I've learned about Johnny is, the Dude is actually hilarious, as one would never get that impression from early interviews, and such!

Cool, I met him once at The Blue Note, during the Trilok era...All I can remember is, don't say anything stupid! This was unlike the time I met John Abercrombie in the men's room at the Blue Note at the urinal. I said: "Well, I don't wanna start complementing you, or anything..." to which he replied, "Yeah, especially in the bathroom!" Jeez, I can be such a dope...Fortunately, Abercrombie was a funny guy. I wanted to ask him about the Timeless record. Surprisingly, he didn't like how it came out, because it wasn't representative of how he was playing at that time. Still, one of my favorite albums of all time...Miss that Dude!

I caught Shakti on the Handful tour in DC at The Kennedy Center -- I was just a young punk! Blown away.

Pretty song. It reminds me of Theo Bleckmann just a bit.
