Hello there Matt

Matt from New Orleans:

Won’t be here next week Kris as I’m going to see SML a LA based “Jazz” band on International Anrhem. It’s the second night of a three nights IA takeover of Public Records in Brooklyn.

Sounds like fun, enjoy it

Matt from New Orleans:

I’m going to all three nights. Jeff Parker and the quartet on his recent album Monday and Alabaster DePlume & Jeremiah Chiu opening for Anna Butters’ band Wednesday. Anna will be busy as she’s in all three bands(obviously her own 😂)

She’s a fantastic bassists. All those artists are based out of LA aside from Alabaster who’s based in London. IA is based in Chicago but puts out a bunch of music from the LA improvised music scene.

I still like other music but I’m mostly listening to Jazz and Jazz -adjacent improvised music these days. Could have gone to see Kelly Finniigan Thursday but instead went to see a Taiwanese bassist play his suite dedicated to a river that runs through his hometown in southern Taiwan and the Mississippi. His Taiwanese band wasn’t able to join him in NY so he played with guys who were in Andy Gonazalez’ band and Donald Harrison. It was a combo of Taiwanese folk melodies, Afro-Cuban Jazz, and New Orleans Jazz. Was really good

www.vincenthsujazz.com That’s the Taiwanese bassist’s website. I’m sure the album is on streaming sites but don’t see it on Bandcamp.

Also found a Moe Koffman Quarter LP on a 'Radio Canada' label, with a really great cover of Comin' Home Baby. I've said before, but fall/winter season tends to be when I gravitate back to jazz records.

Now you're making me wonder what the most desirable Cadet 45 is. I know some of the Terry Callier 45s go for big $$$.
