But one then still has to fight. Like Trouble said, there are a million small ways to do it that give up only convenience (bought always at the cost of someone ELSE's pain and suffering). It might be for nothing, at least in the terms that mean the most to us, what we hold precious. I can't see the future or know the scope of what might come. All I know is that there is no such thing as telos. Nothing is foreordained. So one may as well put one's energy into shaping a future one can at least feel prouder of.

	9:47am newton: Yesterday was a tough day. I had things to keep me focused and occupied, but at the end of the day I was alone and had to explain to the dog how the world was changed. This here is my only social media and I already limit that. Working with local groups to safeguard the more vulnerable is always necessary. Offline things will become even more necessary as the surveillance and tracking of groups is only going to increase. As unpleasant as it may seem, in the long term people need to move out of our safe metropolitan and upstate bubbles INTO the America, become part of the red communities, open local businesses, live with them, earn their trust, and talk to them every day for years to break down the prejudices and expand the educations that have failed them to bring them over. And never treat them as deplorables or garbage. We need to share common goals and lives to be able to move minds and hearts

As the population grew over those three decades, the county got purpler until eventually, two election cycles ago, Democrats won a majority on the County Board and still hold most local administrative and legislative offices today. It's not exactly "the sticks," but it has been nice to witness the evolution. That said, we did not make THEM deplorable. The fact remains that prejudice and bigotry are real and society will always be vulnerable to it as long as so-called "marginal" communities assert their rightful share in society with all the pride and self-actualization that we all deserve.

Together we kvetched about corporations while he fixed my internet. But I gotta tell you, I’m voting for Trump.” We were simpatico on the problem, just not the conclusion. But I came away hopeful. Because we basically agreed on the problem. A greed. If you cant live side by side with them, ugh it sounds like Im advocating some sort of reverse missionary act, then write plays, tv scripts , films that dont exploit them or call them names, but that show their lives and maybe even indirectly show the falsity of some of the basic premises they've been sold and how these large things affect them, and how small things can make a difference. To change their minds you have to move their hearts

DEI is not about putting someone who is not qualified into a position just because of their background. DEI is about making sure to pay attention to allllll the candidates not just the people who look like you or sound like you.

But one then still has to fight. Like Trouble said, there are a million small ways to do it that give up only convenience (bought always at the cost of someone ELSE's pain and suffering). It might be for nothing, at least in the terms that mean the most to us, what we hold precious. I can't see the future or know the scope of what might come. All I know is that there is no such thing as telos. Nothing is foreordained. So one may as well put one's energy into shaping a future one can at least feel prouder of.

	9:47am newton: Yesterday was a tough day. I had things to keep me focused and occupied, but at the end of the day I was alone and had to explain to the dog how the world was changed. This here is my only social media and I already limit that. Working with local groups to safeguard the more vulnerable is always necessary. Offline things will become even more necessary as the surveillance and tracking of groups is only going to increase. As unpleasant as it may seem, in the long term people need to move out of our safe metropolitan and upstate bubbles INTO the America, become part of the red communities, open local businesses, live with them, earn their trust, and talk to them every day for years to break down the prejudices and expand the educations that have failed them to bring them over. And never treat them as deplorables or garbage. We need to share common goals and lives to be able to move minds and hearts

As the population grew over those three decades, the county got purpler until eventually, two election cycles ago, Democrats won a majority on the County Board and still hold most local administrative and legislative offices today. It's not exactly "the sticks," but it has been nice to witness the evolution. That said, we did not make THEM deplorable. The fact remains that prejudice and bigotry are real and society will always be vulnerable to it as long as so-called "marginal" communities assert their rightful share in society with all the pride and self-actualization that we all deserve.

Together we kvetched about corporations while he fixed my internet. He was like “you’re a good guy, I’m not going to charge you, you pay enough money.” Then he goes on “I’m a liberal guy, I don’t care wtf people do, if they are trans or whatever. But I gotta tell you, I’m voting for Trump.” We were simpatico on the problem, just not the conclusion. But I came away hopeful. Because we basically agreed on the problem. A greed. A corporate greed.

If Social Security is gonna get cut I may as well retire at 62 and not wait for a larger payout, and GTFO. Lots of nice quiet retirement communities up by the North Sea.
