Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from October 11, 2024 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Ah. Whenever I see or hear the film composer’s name, I reflexively think of Alfred E. Neuman, making it impossible for me to associate him with Randy Newman, with whom I do associate the mononymic Newman from “Seinfeld."

Hey UM, hey All, I've been working away and enjoying the show. I have to say this is really making me appreciate Randy Newman. I never really liked his songs too much but I'm thinking these are great. (I always thought, among other things, that his songs are too long and kind of plodding). That was how it still worked in the music industry in the mid to late '60s, for RN, and Nilsson, Bacharach etc when songwriters didn't put out the songs themselves...they're at the very end of that...machine. Then came the singer/songwriters...Laura Nyro's another, the Brill Building kids....during that transition...some people DID write everything
