Hey gang! Gather around the campfire for a few lengthy mixes. First up, British mashmixer, Fettdog created a musical version of HG Wells “war of the worlds.“ At least the first part of the book, I don’t know if we get to the end of the story. You’ll just have to read it!

Oh hey there Mr Fab! Sounds exciting!

Hi! So this uses Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. Interesting.

Hi Mr Fab and folks.

Hey NARD n Krys n WR!

Today’s mixes were posted on the Internet, and so far as I know, never commercially released. This “war of the worlds“ mix I believe was posted on a mashup website before vanishing like a, well, alien spaceship into the void of the Internet.

That's a shame because this is soooo good honestly. That's why WFMU is so important in presenting and preserving this stuff

I have so many mashup mixes downloaded off the Internet, many on old CDR‘s. Probably crumbling if not unreadable by now!

Yes, I remember you played the Jeff Wayne WoW over a couple of shows early in the year. For whatever reason I was distracted and didn't hear it through.

Hey, WR. Yes, it was a favorite of mine as a kid.

And now, some “people like us,” who as many of you no doubt are aware, sometimes hosts a WFMU show called “do or DIY.“

Joined by Irene Moon, who is an actual entomologist by day, and a mashup pioneer evolution control committee. My idea of a super group.

Remember when we were sold CDs as the future of music, basically indestructible and longer lasting than vinyl records?

Testing new qwlmlll.

Testing new winter work gloves. Not the reason I bought them but seeing the feature listed for touch screen I tried. "qwlmlll" was me trying to type winter. I did login and get "Testing new" on the screen.

There is a patch of leatherette on each forefinger that can do screen touch and I am able to do screen navigation. Well that's my winter preparedness report.

Yes, though the cheapo CDRs most people used are the main problem. Significant price difference between 2-5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 years expected life CDRs.

And how it cost far less to manufacture CDs, but they charged twice as much. I will never forget!

I was working at a record store in Manhattan circa 1985 when they started to carry CDs, but they could only get Japanese imports. Our clientele worked in the Financial District since we were next to the World Trade Center. They're the only ones who would be $50-$75 a pop for a CD.

Oh my God, and $75 a CD would be hundreds in today’s money. Crazy.

The graphic is a Lego version of Daft Punk’s “pyramid“ stage set up.

And who knows what they were doing up in that pyramid? Playing a pre-recorded mix while checking their email?

At some UK music biz forum a decade or so ago, digital music online distribution was the focus of discussion. Bernard of New Order was hammering on how the musicians and songwriters always get shafted. Peter Townshend quieted him a bit by asking how about how much he made when their LP albums were reissued on CD.

Since you mention Lego, I will note that I am enjoying the meme of Jimmy Carter now too old to play with "For Ages 4 - 99" designated Legos.

Ha ha!

I told my mom when she turned 93 years old how I don’t like Nat King Cole anymore. He only wishes a merry Christmas “for those from one to 92.”Like, the hell with everyone over 92, no merry Christmas for you!
