	11:42pm tom tom the pipers son: with victorians, horror vacuii had to do with filling up physical space, which also had a psychological element to it, with us it's a filling up of mental space that's vacuous and at the same time we're removed from the physical world, so it's quite the opposite to the victorians

It's not that psychedelics are necessary that harmful (though they obviously can be for some people). There's good reason they might provide therapeutic / spiritual benefit for certain people in certain situations. It's just that at some point, one realizes that there's no "other side" one needs to "break on through" (or at least to keep continually trying to break on through to). All the transcendental stuff these substances supposedly offer a quick shortcut to -- it's all here, and it's been here the whole time, man. And you can access it any time. You just need to tune into it.
