↳ Song: "700 Story Building" by "Men's Recovery Project"
There was a period where I was FAR too obsessed with Men's Recovery Project. Their previous band, Born Against, is also well worth tracking down.

Austin Rich:

↳ Song: "U Got Me Bugged" by "Devo"
There's so much to love about Devo, but to know that they started out making stuff like this, and then grew into making pop hits in the 80's, has always impressed me.

↳ Song: "Slip It To The Android" by "Chrome"
This album always reminds me of listening to a show hosted by Ricardo Wang, in PDX. His show was / is called, "What's This Called?" and he would play lots of experimental music. It was a good resource for someone trying to learn about weird records.

↳ Song: "Slip It To The Android" by "Chrome"
experimental fiddle always a fave over here.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: "Needles In The Camel's Eye" by "Brian Eno"
This album reminds me of trying to impress older girls, trying to figure out what bands they liked, being baffled by the named, "Eno," and wondering what that band might sound like, and not learning for many years. I wonder what happened to her...
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:19pm

↳ WR @8:17
It sounds so good on that record, too! I didn't know I loved that kind of thing until I heard it.

Mr Fab:

Hey Austin! Out of work, on the subway. Will be listening’ and rockin’ until I enter the dreaded no-internet-zone.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: "Ashtray Heart" by "Captain Beefheart and the Magi...
Beefheart would talk about how he felt like he was slighted by the punk scene, who would never credit him for influence, in spite of what he thought was obvious influence on what punk rock did. So this was his song about how he resented the way punks took his ideas and never gave him credit.

↳ Song: "Improv Two" by "ALTO!"
I was lucky enough to engineer this band twice, and I have video of a radio performance they did. I should dig it up, but it's over 10 years old, and there's so much stuff to edit since then...

Oh. Yeah, that sounds like the kind of thing that he would have. He loves really weird, esoteric books.

Looking for that now, sounds interesting, depending on the provenance.

Austin Rich:

I work with books, and have for many years, but I'm not as knowledgeable with books in general. I have some vague osmosis of information about authors names that pop up a lot, but I mostly know Sci-Fi and comics better than most stuff. I went pretty deep into comics as a young lad.

Thanks Austin Rich. Will be listening from my couch with a vodka.

I love this album. This artist is from Ipoh, Malaysia, and toured the US at least once, when I saw him. I engineered him twice, and he played a show for my 40th birthday. Wonderful artist. I wish I could have paid him more.

I might not make it to New York before it ends, but I’ll get another chance to see it in Princeton on October 8. I wonder which version it will be?

Nope, the Soothing Sounds for Baby was not adapted by Stalling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
Krys O.:

↳ David Shortell @8:55
It's from the 1960s. Stalling was inspired by the 78s that Raymond Scott recorded in the 30s and 40s.

Trying to remember what this sounded like to my youthful ears in 1970. Now it is a lovely and whimsical lullaby.
