	8:14pm Zip7: A friend visited last week and asked how someone like me, who is deeply suspicious of organized religion, could love gospel music so much. I showed him this wonderful passage by Vic Broughton: "Gospel digs deeper than other music. Those who make it so - and those who have made it so in the past - form an uncompromising band of saints who have spent decades in contention with all manner of demons. Where most performers sing out of their own artistic resources and for their own reward, any gospel singer worth half an amen will begin and end on an entirely different plane. "It's a disturbing kind of joy they dispense. It can hardly be tagged as entertainment, though it's often more entertaining than blues or soul or jazz or R&B or any of the other music with which it overlaps. Gospel is altogether more extreme in its depths and in its heights ... always at its best when at its most emotive and cathartic. This is after all, a religious expression about life and death, invariably made under extreme circumstances. Few performers have had it quite so tough as gospel singers and it shows in the way they commit themselves within a song: diamond hard voices from low down on the human scale, rising up against all the odds to transcend the evil days and proclaim a special kind of victory. "It's not necessarily a pleasurable experience for the uninitiated. Even a childhood steeped in the rites of the gospel church won't always prepare you for the upset created by a certain song or a certain singer at an uncertain moment. For an outsider coming upon the dramatic fervor of gospel unprepared, the disturbance can be utterly overwhelming. Repellent even. 'There's something about the gospel blues,' said Sister Rosetta Tharpe to author Tony Heilbut, 'that's so deep the world can't stand it.'"

	9:00am G: Hey, still dealing with the super-heavy two-house cleanup in Lafayette, LA, and my regular schedule is still pretty severely messed up. Listening to Thursday night show on Friday morning while I do online work. Driving back to NOLA this morning to do stuff that needs to be done there, and then drive back here to Lafayette on Saturday for another 7-10 in the hotel. At least we got the house needing to be sold tentatively sold yesterday late afternoon. If we could get down to focusing only on the other house that we are keeping, my schedule might get easier in coming weeks. This has been a six week thing as of this Saturday, since mid July...

	9:00am G: Hey, still dealing with the super-heavy two-house cleanup in Lafayette, LA, and my regular schedule is still pretty severely messed up. Listening to Thursday night show on Friday morning while I do online work. Driving back to NOLA this morning to do stuff that needs to be done there, and then drive back here to Lafayette on Saturday for another 7-10 in the hotel. At least we got the house needing to be sold tentatively sold yesterday late afternoon. If we could get down to focusing only on the other house that we are keeping, my schedule might get easier in coming weeks. This has been a six week thing as of this Saturday, since mid July...
