Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

Favoriting August 28, 2024: GRANT MCPHEE, author of Postcards from Scotland: Scottish Independent Music 1983-95

Listen to this show: MP3 - 128K | Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Grant McPhee has established himself as bit of an authority on the Scottish post-punk and indie scenes by way of his documentary films Big Gold Dreams (2015) and Teenage Superstars (2017), as well as co-writing the book Hungry Beat: The Scottish Pop Underground Movement (77-84) in 2022. Grant and I will talk about his new book, which is an oral history that recounts the radical transformation of Scotland’s independent music scene from 1983-1995. The book comes out in the US next month via Omnibus Press.
