Be shaken. Be stirred. A whimsical wham-bam of exotic enchantments, sleazy oddities, pop fancies, and swingin’ slingers broadcast from Ridgewood, NYC’s very own Shangri-Lounge. Best served chilled, garnished with signature swizzle schtick.

Apparently, it isn't.

Well, "More Specials" isn't "bad" per se, but def a sophomore slump album. Can't go wrong with their debut, or the "Ghost Town" EP. But then in the '90s they started doing these sporadic reunion albums with various line-ups, and I don't know a lot about them.

wimpy:

Reunion album is a phrase that should make any sane person run for cover, but maybe they’re not so bad

↳ Song: "Expresso" by "The Monochrome Set"
Need to investigate! This tune rules.

Hey I got into cool music during a Yann tomita kick earlier this year, which has Egyptian reggae on it as well. Might have to check out what else this guy has done!

I feel like I hear a fair amount of french music on your show, Shangri-Lounge. Are you secretly a francophile too?
Avatar 7:18pm
shangri-lounge:

↳ Austin Rich @7:16
I enjoyed Paris, but I'd say my interest in French culture doesn't extend much beyond the pop music and 60's aesthetic.

↳ shangri-lounge @7:18
Ahhh. I have admit I don't keep up with modern France either, but I love a lot of French Film, and 60's France seems like heaven to me. I wish I was better at the language.

I hear the experimental scene is good there, though I would need to do more research to back that up.

Love what you've done to the place, the decor, the flowers in bloom, the... MUSIC! Hi Shangri-La and Melodramas.

Know this song pretty well and surprised to look and see listed as Dury and the Blockheads. Thought it was a cover. Perhaps my mind is on vacation.

↳ Song: "What Presence?!" by "Orange Juice"
I'm trying to remember which one, but there's a Cometgain record, where one of them is holding an Orange Juice record in their cover photo, and I loved that SO MUCH, that I've stolen that idea OVER AND OVER again.

Wow, an outpouring of recommendations, thanks! Breathless has been on my radar for a long time, I might as well watch it, and two for shoot the piano player makes it seem like that’s a much watch too. I love a good comedy so I’ll check out some of his stuff, and while I love noirs, my partner has gotten tired of watching them with me so it might be a bit before I can convince them to sit through another one. Thanks to everyone though!
