Neither here nor there, but I just discovered the old TV series Johnny Staccato, with John Cassavetes. Real NY noir, lots of jazz (the title character is a private detective and jazz pianist). The soundtrack is hardcore gangster jazz, very Henry Mancini. All on YouTube.
