Think about the types of slang and vernacular (and jargon) in English, and now imagine trying to decipher foreign equivalents of that stuff, even if you know a lot about the formal language!

(It's also over-rated because anyone can be sincere, even people with horrible ideas—give me a cynical Tammany ward-heeler over a sincere S.S.-man.)
