"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

I hand out this flyer to any who appear to be musically oriented:
WFMU.org freeform college radio
Every type of music you can imagine
Goth, punk, noise, metal, pop, old country, polka, speedmetal Melvins, Tom Jones, Chrome, Merl Haggard, Joy Division, New Order, King Crimson, Bruce Springsteen, 13th Floor Elevators, The Byrds, The Who, Voivod you name it, they got it.
Go to WFMU.org and listen to one of two live streams or check out their archive.
Also fun is put in a name of a band in the WMFU band browser and see the shows it appeared in.
Why do I do this? Because WFMU is free and really truly amazing music available for free.
On the app on your phone you can download 3 hour long shows if you want. All FREE FREEFORM radio. There is NOTHING ELSE like this out there, except for maybe some college radio stations.
Shows (at least 40 or more) to check out:Garbage Time, Irwin, Dianes Kamikazee Fun Machine (metal), John Allen (kinda noisy) , Ken, Feelings with Michele with one L, etc etc etc. The archived shows go all the way back to 2000.JA in the AM.

We decided yesterday that rather than walking the dog a mile to the dog park, it was the better part of valor to walk him four blocks to an air-conditioned bar (94F locally). And then the bartender had the door and window open and was blasting the World's Least-Inspired Playlist. It was a grave disappointment. I finished my drink and said, "Let's go. For THIS we're missing Scott Williams?"

Whereas, on the beach at Asbury Park yesterday (which was lovely), I heard competing oontz club music on one bluetooth speaker, uninspired Latin pop on another, and some idiot listening to just commercials. Man I just tuned it all out incredibly hard and imagined I was listening to Scott Williams.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:20am
Karl:

I kinda wanted to go up to the guy and ask, dude, it's 3 PM, we're at the beach, you can't possibly want to listen to oontz oontz oontz oontz (here I just keep repeating "oontz" until the guy gets weirded out and leaves, no matter how long it takes).
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:21am

They set up on the street between two large industrial buildings. It's kind of like an outdoor hipster food hall. Industry City is locally controversial. They lost a rezoning battle a few years ago. The shows I've seen though have been great.
