Reason for two-week absence: 1) took a vacation. 2) returned to so much backlogged work, I needed a vacation.

I'm guessing that photo by Laura is found footage, but it's still great even if she set it up.

Listener Robert:

My reaction would be very negative if she set it up. People are going to step in it and track it all over.

The loop at the end is a clue that it was not accidental, whoever did it. The paste had to be equeezed out beginning at that doubled-back end, probably from directly above or close. Then the tube had to be moved. I'm thinking someone with a steady hand traced out that path.

Years of science research and consuming detective fiction.

It looks like it's Crest, and it might even have fluoride. That's something, at least.

And even if she set it up she might have wiped it up as soon as she got the shot. I certainly would have (especially knowing that you'll be watching now).

An unusual situation I saw on the uptown Spring St. platform of the Lexington line. I never go anywhere without my camera--I've seen a lot of odd things on the MTA, but never before anything involving a tube of Crest. Nope, I'm not the perpetrator, just the observer.

Even some insiders at WFMU don't know much about Gus. Gus is a mysterious friend of Irwin. I know literally nothing else about him.

Irwin is the longest-running DJ at WFMU, having been there since 1975, and I get the impression that he used to do more offbeat comedy bits and voices. (You can still hear him meow occasionally -- he's great at cat noises.) Irwin is clearly not Gus, but (warning: pure speculation follows) I wonder if Gus started out as a concept "voice" developed by Irwin, and then he decided it was too rough on his geezer* larynx (or too obvious) and the character sort of got spun off.

There was a Fascination in Rochester, NY in Seabreeze Amusement Park on Lake Ontario. I worked the Fascination parlor one summer during college, circa '82? handing out the prizes. Not the best job I ever had, but not the worst, thinking on it.

"Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products perceived to be of greater quality, such as artistic value or environmental value."

Aren't all smoothies made from fruit that's "on life support", or ugly fruit? Not to mention dried fruit snacks, etc. Not to mention everything containing whey, which is otherwise just dumped into rivers by yogurt producers, where it then kills the fish, etc.

Used to be the New England philosophy, and especially during the Depression and WWII. After the War - out the window, especially by the time "planned obsolescence" became the way.

"Today we call that “repurposing” or “upcycling.” " says the FDR Presidential Library & Museum. Wait a minute...this goes all the way to the Top!!!

I don't listen to most of the Top charts music, but someone once pointed out that the kidz nowadays love dancing to that music; whereas those like me who like to sit and listen to music, don't find it appealing at all.
