It is sad. I've shared this story before. A few years ago my daughter was hanging out with her friend who's dad is a New Zealander. Music came up with the dad and I started going on and on about the Clean. He was all like "huh?" I then explained who they were and he gave a polite "I'll have to check them out". I honestly thought the Clean were a household name in NZ like The Beatles or Prince. I guess not - hahaha!

Listener Bryan (the Professor):

My Clean story is kind of the opposite and I can only tell part of it here, but one day in therapy I told my therapist that I had been to see an amazing concert with my little brother. I couldn't shut up about it. He said who was it and when I said The Clean he said "the band from New Zealand?" I knew something was up (he was not someone you'd expect to know The Clean) and sure enough I eventually figured out the connection. I'll respect privacy and not name names, but by coincidence one of the band was also seeing my therapist. I can even now remember crossing paths with him in the waiting room but didn't really put it all together at the time.
