Her first album, the eponymous 1954 recording Helen Merrill (with Clifford Brown on EmArcy), was an immediate success and associated her with the first generation of bebop jazz musicians. Though woefully uninformed, I've always respected and acknowledged the work of Sonny Clark, so thanks for the fine selection of his recordings.
I "thought" I was informed enough on Helen Merrill to go with a, "yeah cute but whatever" assessment of her work. Well, again woefully uninformed and also totally wrong of me. More listening adventures await.
