Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

Mentioning people with 8 fingers might not be the argument you think it is with this crowd. I agree though, and I work in AI

Getting an instrument that fits the player instead of the other way around is a selling point of AI
  3:56pm
Joe Brent:

fred I use AI as a tool! VST instruments are really a form of AI, and I make demos using them extensively. It saves a ton of time in rehearsal and helps the players learn the music. I'm not against AI – I just don't think it will ever replace the thing that people do when they're reacting to each other, with all of the the imperfections therein etc

That's OK when you get to the point when you can actually make the instrument together. AI is not doing that, just bespoke, one way stuff that adds nothing
  3:58pm
Joe Brent:

Maybe one day I'll find a way to share the VST demos I made for all of this music, and then the actual recorded version made by people. Could be a fascinating side by side

My friend Souki Mansoor is doing a lot of interesting stuff in creative applications of AI. She directed the first 9 Horses music video for 'the water understands'

This is magical, really enjoying Strum, thank you both for doing this special today. Unable to follow the conversation between phone calls, and reading, but will delve into it in the archives.
