I've never heard of these movies, but I usually look for the top metacritic ratings. I know i'm missing out.. so many movies are better than the critics sya

Deeply, deeply troubling that the new MD is into Steely Dan, LOL LOL LOL (though not as bad as being into Chris Pratt's Garfield)

Well Jude Law was acting. How was that movie? Anything with The Tudors.....

re fat suits, etc - Totally agree abt this oft-Hollywood miscasting of super stars instead of great characters actors! Drives me nuts-O.

one thring I really miss about NJ is that anytime at any italian NJ restaurant you can get any kind of pasta dish. here in CA you can only get what's trendy or CalItalian

It's called acting.
  6:14pm
Erik/VT:

IMO, BikeRiders is very odd tone’d film. Doesn’t quite work - yet very curiously engaging. That director Jeff Nichols makes unusual films. This is the first I haven’t loved.

I hear THELMA (June Squibb) is really quite wonderful.

perhaps more high-hat than rotten tomatoes, i prefer dipping into METACRITIC as my go-to warehouse of reviewers. Still , Wikipedia is the first place I look/read.

Erik/VT:

re Tavianni Bros (almost ALL are great!)
- especially the 70s-early 80s era. yet re Critics, one hadn’t read horrendously scathing criticism until one reads John Simon. (Awful just awful, yet entertaining).

dan in wisconsin:

I think it was either Sundance or IFC Channel where I first saw Box of Moonlight (1996). This movie has a really quirky soundtrack. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Wall of Voodoo, Peter Murphy... Set in the summertime, and it's a great road trip movie. John Turturro's character finds a mix tape cassette in the seat cushion of his rental car.
  6:39pm
Tom from Stirling:

Willem Dafoe is in that Kindness movie. So it must be good.

I don't have access to cable television anymore, so I don't know if IFC plays cool stuff anymore. I saw Koyaanisqatsi on IFC one night after coming home from my movie theater job and was mesmerized. Ron Fricke is a fantastic cinematographer.

If you liked Late Night With The Devil, you might want to look for a movie called The Cleansing Hour for comparison/contrast. It's a slightly earlier film with a notably similar premise (online fake exorcist live streams what turns out to be the real thing)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am
ultradamno:

Another relatively recent (last year) vampire movie worth looking at is El Conde
  2:07pm
Mark of Sea Bright:

regarding 0:33:18, I agree David Denby has questionable taste in movies: I recall he gave Skyfall a bad review, which I think is the best Bond film. But I also do think The New Yorker has an anti-movie culture; its rare that it gives a good review
