Hi Todd. Listened to some tunes from the Deep Purple Machine Head album. A lot of Funk in Maybe I'm a Leo and Never Before. They changed the lineup and got even funkier with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes on Sail Away and You Fool No One. Interesting band. Just sharing some thoughts. That was NYC back then. The most vulnerable people were from out of town usually. It was pretty tough especially in the late 70s and early 80s but the music was starting to define those times.
Plenty of clubs and bars with live music, plenty of bands and you didn't have to live on the UES or Gramercy Park. It was weird and crazy and nobody was watching the kids.

What I liked about the early 80s rockabilly "revival" was how many of the emerging indie artists then really dug deeply back to the roots of R&R...compared to the "Rockwellian" slant on the music/fashions as portrayed in the 70s Happy Days/American Graffiti period.
