This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

amazing, somewhat overlooked Munich group with Peter Michael Hamel who went on to cut some great solo albums
Avatar 7:52pm
Flash Strap:

their first 2 LPs are sublime
  7:53pm

Peter Michael Hamel also had some connection to a Swiss prog band, Flame Dream, did he not? Or am I thinking of somebody else?
Avatar 7:55pm
Flash Strap:

↳ Dean @7:53
i don't think so, but could be wrong. not terribly familiar with Flame Dream
  7:58pm
Dean:

My bad. I often confuse Peter Michael Hamel with John Wolf Brennan! Worse, I believe his brother was in Flame Dream. I know of the band, because a friend of mine from Downey, CA, was in the band for a time.
Avatar 8:02pm

i should check them out

love the wide-ranging experimental feel on the early Kraftwerk albums, they have a very unpredictable energy
Avatar 8:07pm
Flash Strap:

back when Florian still played flute, very human!

Not on this track, where there are no drums, but on the first half of the album, drums are handled by their former Organisation bandmate Andreas Hohmann. Klaus Dinger on drums for the final track... real krautrock personnel details

Avatar 8:11pm
Flash Strap:

if Conny's production doesn't save an album for me, then the band simply hasn't got the juice
Avatar 8:12pm
Flash Strap:

↳ Song: "Des Zauberers Traum" by "Eroc"
one of my favorite pieces
  8:14pm
Dean:

This playlist: Agitation Free, Kraftwerk, Eroc--was very much a part of my musical life in the '70s and '80s. I would like to hear more of the Blues-inflected German prog, too. Less austere, more Allman Brothers-ish, but equally worth celebrating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Aitch:

↳ Dean @8:14
A bit of Birth Control perhaps?
  8:16pm
Dean:

Yep, and Kraan, Jane, Guru Guru, old UFO, Release Music Orchestra, Epitaph...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Aitch:

↳ Song: "Rotor" by "Cluster"
I've been playing this album a lot. Inspirations for my modular thing which is growing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
pot8o:

↳ Song: "In Arkansas Steht 'n Atomkraftwerk" by "Exmagma"
never heard this side of exmagma before
Avatar 8:18pm
Flash Strap:

other than Guru Guru i don't have much personal feeling for those bands, generally turn to the german groups for their tendency to eschew blues for a different vision
Avatar 8:19pm
Flash Strap:

↳ Aitch @8:16
such a perfect little masterpiece, the ultimate of its kind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
pot8o:

personally, i lean more towards the lengthy jam based krautrock, stuff like tone float, agitation free's last, and ash ra tempel's s/t
  8:20pm
Dean:

I wouldn't call Blues a vision.
Avatar 8:23pm
Flash Strap:

↳ Song: "Milk Rock" by "Organisation"
both Ralf & Florian in this group - tho i was wrong before: Hohmann wasn't in Organisation
Avatar 8:26pm
Flash Strap:

↳ Dean @8:20
what i mean is that they broke from a blues-based idea of rock, very US/UK-derived at first, in a unique way and i like that. no disrespect to the bands that maintained a footing in the blues - Guru Guru is a favorite, and Achim Reichel has a lot of traditional rock in his DNA - i just never developed a taste for some of them. tho i've been trying to get into Kraan... always trying to expand my horizons, but currently that's more in the direction of jazz-rock in krautrock
Avatar 8:29pm

↳ Song: "Drops" by "Ibliss"
Andreas Hohmann on drums here, with crucial production by Plank. very cool pulpy cover in my opinion

Avatar 8:34pm

hey Alex!
  8:34pm

I understand, Flash Strap. I only find the breaks not so definitive, which is why I place austere Blues--Cluster--against Almann Brothers-ish Blues. They're all Blues as I hear them.

Check David Lynch's description -- or more like his account of the doc's description -- of his first colonoscopy as a youth, in an NPR interview today.

I don't need David Lynch to talk to me about colonoscopies. Nor do I need NPR mediating my experience. Sorry, but only I can deal with the experience of having a butt up my camera.
