True story: this winter, I saw a minivan with MA license plates and a Woof Moo bumper sticker in my part of the world. I complimented the driver on her bumper sticker and she goes, my brother Dan Bodah has a show on WFMU!

Just curious. Is there a specific reason why the schedule is not just broken into two 6 month segments? Why 3/9 months.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am
Dan Bodah:

↳ goes211 @9:54
Because it's weird to do it this way? No, tbh I don't know for sure, but I think it was originally an artefact of the station's history as a college station in the 1950s-1990ish.

Do metal bands with their vocalizations qualify as throat singing?

You speak of the difference between Meteorological Seasons (Climate) & Astronomical Seasons (length of Daylight). Which is real.
Avatar 10:30am
Mister Dobalina:

Now we're really in the Vocal Fry of things! Love me some throat singing !! Clicky star stuff, right here !!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am
Dan Bodah:

↳ Scott from Boston @10:26
Some do, yep. Throat singing refers to techniques where someone controls the mouth, tongue, and glottis to produce a fundamental tone and then isolated overtones above it. A lot of "cookie monster" metal vocals use a similar technique to the guttural throat singing style called kargaraa.
Avatar 10:32am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...tradition in places calling Solstice 'Midsummer' in fact...
Avatar 10:33am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

When I saw Alash, the host posited that 'throat singing' was a term he didn't like much - as everyone who sings uses their throat ...but we know what it means generally...
  10:35am
scott:

maybe message boards should have limited scratch and sniff, and, or extremely limited sound clip capabilities?

...we also have the Cross-Quarter Sabbats on the Wheel of the Year - marking the middle points between Solstices & Equinoxes - & the middles of the Astronomical Seasons (& the Fixed Mode Signs of the Zodiac). Your Imbolc, Beltaine (MayDay), Lammas & Samhain (Halloween) Festivals ...for consideration in how Meteorological & Astronomical Seasons might relate...
  10:45am
scott:

If you ever leave your house to walk or more importantly to drive or ride, you should ALWAYS wear polarized shades, even if you are blind., because the equinoxes are dangerous.
Avatar 10:46am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I favor polarized shades as a matter of fact.
  10:48am
Yes:

😎 looking forward to having you on the schedule once again
  10:48am

Driving east just after sunrise or west just before sunset on the equinoxes will convince you of this.

Equinox or solstice?
  10:52am
scott:

Yep, and that low angle sunlight, plus the reflected sunlight that is horizontally polarized,
blinds me every time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am

↳ Revolution Rabbit Nov63 @10:49
Equal daylight/darkness time is equinox

On the Solstices the Sun is most North or South...
