Discotech Underground is actually two...two...two shows in one!

The first half is a "Happy Hour" of sorts (because it's five o'clock somewhere, right?), spinning the kinds of sounds you might have heard at a real, authentic 1960's DISCOTECH as cool cats and swingin' chicks danced the night away in their mod threads and mini skirts to hard-driving sounds under the flashing lights! The only thing missing are the cage dancers...but we're working on it!

The second half is for when you head home after a wild night, and ease in with the heady, trippy, mind-expanding sounds of a groovy free-form UNDERGROUND rock radio station that digs deep into their library and blows your mind all over again!

Welcome. one and all to "Discotech Underground After Dark", a bit of a change of pace and more like an expanded version of the second hour of my normal show. This is my tribute to the late night FM DJ"s of the golden age where we dig DEEP into the DU record vault and come up with different and intriguing music from the days when radio didn't suck. I hope you enjoy the program and thank you so much for being here tonight!

That is kind of surprising... I always thought that New York was one of those states that was interested in helping people with their welfare???...:)

so what happened to your leg after that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
Discotech Underground:

↳ Blissland @11:28
It was rough going. Liquid diet for the first three weeks with all fluids going through a tube in my nose and down my throat into my stomach. My leg was tore up from where they took the bone out for the graft. Then I had six weeks of radiation treatments which were brutal also. But, two and a half years later it still hasn't come back, so we're good so far.

no they have specific criteria for qualification and they don't make exceptions. When my mom died I got a survivor benefit from ssa and that put my income over the maximum

I have a nasty wound scar where they took it out and I walk with a bit of a limp sometimes but not too terrible. The fibula is not a really crucial bone which is why they can use it for this type of procedure.
  11:32pm
Blissland:

↳ Discotech Underground @11:30
Man you're brave. That would definitely be enough for me to throw in the towel. There's not much keeping me here apart from cowardice
  11:32pm
Blissland:

↳ Discotech Underground @11:31
do they expect the leg to improve any further?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm

Nah, not me. I come from strong stock. My mom fought metastatic breast cancer for fourteen years so I come by my determination honestly.

Blissland:

↳ Discotech Underground @11:31
I wonder why they just didn't put a prosthetic in your mandible and leave the leg alone
  11:33pm
Chuck:

I guess I should probably worry more than I do but it doesn't do any good...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Discotech Underground:

I think it's probably about as good as it's going to get. I don't limp all the time but when I've been on my feet for a while or if I am trying to walk quickly, the limp kicks in. It's a slight one, luckily. Not too terrible. But if it means I stay alive, I'll live with it.

What saved my ass was that it was caught early before it got bad. Early detection is the key to everything when it comes to medical stuff. It's no different than a car, really. If you let something go it just gets worse and more expensive to fix, if it can be fixed at all. You know what they say about an ounce of prevention being worth more than a pound of cure. That shit is true.

The bone will actually fuse with the existing bone whereas a prosthetic won't. It will grow together naturally and become permanent.
  11:38pm
Blissland:

That's why insurance lobbies try to de-emphasise preventative medicine. Most of the troubles in this society are due to greed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
Discotech Underground:

They also did a skin graft off of my hip over the top of the bone, which also fused together to cover it over. It's amazing how they can just harvest parts of you and put someplace else!

They put in a plate after they took the piece with the tumor out and that held the graft together while it fused together. It's all solid now but the plate it still in there, which is OK.

Nope. The anchor tooth has issues that they can't fix so I have to get either a partial or a bridge. Leaning towards the bridge but it's pretty costly.

It's interesting how people consider themselves lucky when they come out of a bad situation, rather than unlucky for being in that situation to begin with. Like suriving a plane crash with broken bones or something. It's like a glass half full sort of thing
  11:47pm
Blissland:

I guess it's all in where you end up

Well, I look at it this way; the bad thing happened regardless, so in order to fix it, I had to do what I had to do. Getting cancer was a bad thing but it was caught early which means my survival rate was much greater. I am grateful for that outcome because it could have been much much worse.

One of the cool things was I had a lot of support from my WFMU family, and having this show to do was very crucial in getting me back up and on my feet again. Thankfully I did most of my recovery at home which does a lot for your mental well being and determination.
