Yep, the happy-go-lucky sounds of '80s industrial music.
🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:03pm

↳ Song: "side A (no track titles)" by "Pacific 231"
as many know, Pacific 231 is a class of locomotive engines after which the composer Arthur Honegger titled his best well known composition.

Wondering about the possible connection to this artist.
Avatar 1:06pm
Tony Coulter:

↳ WR @1:03
I'm sure the "group" name was inspired by Honneger's piece -- which, of course, was sort of early industrial music.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
Yvang:

I see on Jolivet's Disgogs others bands names : Free Mount 231, Psy 231, Vox 231... Making the Honneger inspiration more cryptic...
Avatar 1:12pm
Tony Coulter:

↳ Yvang @1:09
Those are collaborative projects. Psy 231 = Psyclones + Pacific 231. Vox 231 = Vox Populi + Pacific 231, etc.

Portland visitor Barbra, if you enjoy books, you must visit not only Powell's, but Melville Books on NE Alberta near 28th. A tiny store of used volumes expertly curated by the young Mr. Melville, who runs the store.

Barba Yiorgi:

It's worth a peek. A tourist trap, but that's sort of the idea.

Avatar 2:01pm
Tony Coulter:

A tourist trap -- is that like a mouse trap?
Avatar 2:03pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, I think there are several bookstores in Portland that are much more interesting than Powell's.
Avatar 2:12pm
Tony Coulter:

Like, say, Daedalus Books and Mother Foucault's (despite that pretentious name).
  2:13pm
Barba Yiorgi:

yeah, I deliberately searched for 2 or 3 things as a test, that ballyhooed Powell's did not have. Unfortunately Melville closed today and I'm leaving town tomorrow. but thanks
  2:14pm
Barba Yiorgi:

So Foucault had a mother *and* a pendulum? whaddaguy
Avatar 2:14pm
Tony Coulter:

Ha!
  2:15pm
Dean:

Right. He's closed Mon. & Tue., if I recall. To the west a block or so is a sibling store, all fantasy and science fiction, same side of Alberta.
  2:16pm
sphere:

Someone please please please reissue this!

Thanks in advance.
  2:16pm
Dean:

Mnemonists is Xenakis-y.
  2:17pm
Barba Yiorgi:

So Alberta an arty nabe, sorta? I know east side is the cool side

Barba Yiorgi:

These guys AKA Biota, wicki sez
Avatar 2:17pm

Hi, sphere! Yeah, I wish someone would reissue this -- only around 50 copies were released (tho the tape was booted at some point).
Avatar 2:18pm
Tony Coulter:

↳ Barba Yiorgi @2:17
Yeah, it's called the Alberta Arts District.
  2:19pm
Dean:

Arty, yes, decent coffee joints, a fun Irish pub. Once upon a time Whammerdyne was located there. What's Whammerdyne, you ask? Tube amplifiers. I've lusted after them in my heart.

In any case this tape can be found on Youtube.

I'm walking distance from there (alberta) at the moment (Kennedy school). Think I'll meander after Tony show is over

Forgot to reveal the identity of today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes (no one could possibly guess it from what's showing, so I didn't ask). It's a s/t LP by Slap: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
Yvang:

↳ Tony Coulter @2:35
Do you usually pick the mystery LP in some connection with the cassettes or is this 100% random?
Avatar 2:38pm
Tony Coulter:

It's random -- whatever makes a good enough background for the photo, and is on hand.
Avatar 2:41pm
Tony Coulter:

I was thinking, though, that I should start choosing some well-known LPs so people will be able to guess what they are. I have so many fabulous prizes to give away.
