That's the connection between the middle ear and the throat (why you can swallow and "pop" your ears when they are affected by pressure, as in a plane). When that tube is blocked, the middle ear fills with fluid, which doesn't allow free movement of the ear drum (tympanic membrane), and this causes a loss of hearing. My $0.02...

That's the connection between the middle ear and the throat (why you can swallow and "pop" your ears when they are affected by pressure, as in a plane). When that tube is blocked, the middle ear fills with fluid, which doesn't allow free movement of the ear drum (tympanic membrane), and this causes a loss of hearing. My $0.02...
