Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

There's a current "European Classics" feature, where European ensembles distribute a recent performance to American radio stations, with the provision that they can be played only once. So, it's like a one-time live performance, only pre-recorded. My local classical station puts them on, usually after midnight. (Relevant to the instructions with this recording that DJP described.)

Tempted to say Wynton, but I don't remember Scofield playing with him.
The van't Hof improved at the end.

Chet Baker! I'm glad @doctorj isn't here, because he would be telling us how he saw that group live back in the day.

Just completed my Monday Morning Catch up, fine show!
I LOVED Radio Thrift Shop (and the rest of Laura Cantrell's show, going back to when she was on WKCR).
There are some other WFMU DJs who play old radio archives-
Sounds Under 64 Not Allowed with Jan Turkenburg
Krys O's Free-Form Roller Coaster
(But they tend to Pop from the 30s on, not really focused on jazz).
Catch you next week, or on the boards!
