You probly all know this - but :
DickDale was like Hendrix - a left-handed Fender Stratocaster player - who pushed the boundaries of amplification - in succeeding eras so to speak. But then they were also sort of opposite : Jimi played an upside-down right-handed gittar, but restrung it to be 'rightside-up' for him - whereas Dale played a left-handed Strat - which he strung upsidedown for a Lefty... Many left-handed Gittarists - or a %age of them - just learn to play upside-down, given the ubiquity of right-handed instruments & relative rarity of left-handed ones. Not a few become 'ambidextrous' - & are fluent either of those ways. & indeed also simply play right-handed. Reportedly Hendrix was to a good extent, & Paul McCartney too...
Dale also used thick strings & heavy picks, which he shredded with that fast staccato picking technique...
On the West Coast, Dale pushed the development of ever larger more powerful amplifiers via the Fender company. Tho he is sometimes left out of the timeline for larger amps - as these Fenders were the model for Marshall amps in London, whose development into 100 Watt stacks was spurred by the demands of TheWho around 1965 - & became the commonplace arsenal really for all subsequent Hard Rawk as we've since known it... Hendrix of course migrated to London - & went straight to Townshend to scout what he was using...
