I think I've talked about this elsewhere, but it bears repeating, because it was so traumatic: I briefly lived in a hippie house in Santa Cruz. It was the classic story - rotting 19th century Victorian with a lot of rooms.

The plumbing was a disaster, and giant slugs would come out of the kitchen sink drain at night and crawl around on the counter tops. Also, you would pull back the shower curtain and there was an eight inch slug in the folds of the useless plastic drape.

yellowjackets i think were once useful pollenators, like other wasps - but have evolved to be very smart, aggressive and adaptable.
if they were just assholes to people, i'd merely kill them when being attacked - or chased, or stalked... but that they destroy honeybee hives is beyond tolerable.
i have no mercy for them; i don't wait for them to be aggressive.

I was about ten years old when the kid across the street came to our front door in a panic and said there was a real big bug in the gutter in front of his house.

I went to investigate and found a crab struggling to stay alive.

We lived thirty miles from the ocean, so how did this poor miss placed 'bug' wind up on our street?

Simple: My friends older sister had a surfer boyfriend who lived in front of their house in his 1957 Chevy Nomad station wagon, and brought it from the beach for the express purpose of making his girlfriend scream, then thru it in the gutter.
