I think the volume is somewhat reduced in comparison to the main stream -- often when I switch back and forth I have to remember to turn the VLC volume down to like 60 percent or less or it's really jarringly loud. Today it's OK at 100 percent and probably equalized at around 85 percent.

I got crazy, made about 150 latkes. Had the family Chanukah party this past Saturday, pot luck, people brought a lot of food. It took a while to reheat the frozen latkes (longer than I expected). Long story short-I still have 50-75 latkes left, come on by! (I thought maybe people didn't like them, but they did come out and reheat well, imo)

just started back to gym myself! Yikes on the hernia! I have something going on myself that I'm getting checked out, but nothing like you're dealing with. Thanksgiving was great, except for the bookends of weirdness. My son had broken up with his girlfriend the night before so he came unhappy; apparently there are people out there you can pay to do "loyalty tests" -- sending provocative messages to see if the partner responds to it. My son's insecure girlfriend decided to fork over $10 to test him, which he didn't take too kindly to. He did some research on the girl who had messaged him and found out that was what she did for her fun money at college. A shame, because we liked her, but you can't stay in a relationship with that kind of mistrust. He travels a lot of weekends now for the driving instruction he does and apparently she thought something was going on. At the other end, my sister-in-law decided she didn't like her future son-in-law's pumpkin pie so she dumped the whole thing in the garbage. But the middle was great!

what's really weird is that when he's away, he sends us (including her) tons of pics from whatever track he's at. All things considered, he handled it pretty well. He had his beat to crap race car as his profile pic, and one of the comments she made was something along the lines of "nice car!" Once he figured out what was going on, he composed a long, very detailed description of modifications he made to his car ("the front fascia is off a coupe, but I was able to modify it to fit a sedan -- you can't even tell!" "I added some stiffer springs on the rear to keep the rear from swinging out if I had to make a hard turn coming up a hill" -- that kind of stuff), but he decided against sending it.

she lives in her head too much. no close friends to give her a reality check, so her insecure thoughts just fester. It's really a shame. Being an "older" parent was challenging with him because he was into sports, and I didn't want to be one of those parents who just handed their kids over to someone else to do all the work. I was a volunteer assistant coach for just about every sport he played -- football, basketball, lacrosse. I tried to keep up with the kids in the fitness part of the practices, but quickly reached the point where I just couldn't do it. Plus I had a parent once compliment me on being so involved with my grandson...

I think this is why I never learned how to ride a bike.

Memorable lines from my dad in my sports "career": When I was in a lot of ankle pain after once again finishing way after everyone else in the mile run after soccer practice: "It's just that you're built like a racehorse. All that weight on those thin ankles." And, after I struck out in a rare appearance in a baseball game: "Don't feel bad. You're like a boy playing with men out there."

He was trying, I know.

I *did* get the Charlie Hustle Award two years running in baseball even though I barely played and was terrible. But I got the last RBI of the season once by striking out and running to first when the catcher dropped the ball. They were so confused by what was going on that the runner on third was able to score when they finally threw it. Knowing the rules! It's what I got!
