I’m hear for this … Kleenex / LiLiPUT ticked my world as a youth !!! Ever since I heard that first Kleenex song on the stellar Rough Trade “wanna buy a bridge” compilation. Shortly thereafter, I randomly purchased the first 2 jaw-dropping LiLiPUT 7” 45s that were an absolute revelation of diy and even more thrilling to me than previous benchmark band The Slits. I was utterly surprised to find out after that it was Kleenex continued. - even more wonderful! Jumped at the sweet and quirky 1st Lp and the rest is semi-obscure history…eventually corrected by the Off Course / kill rock stars label. Whew.
Thankful for this.

Hey Flan- great band. This is well overdue. Don’t think I heard much of their stuff at the time. They were pretty obscure in the US during their original existence.

Yes, must have been a great moment when you realized the translation was spot on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
Franco Twinkie:

That is a very admirable trait. No one needs to know what your reading - EVER!

How difficult was the translation?

Guardian review of the book:

erik-O-vert:

the obvious greats of The Slits, Essential Logic/Lora Logic, Delta5, SS & the Banshees, X-Ray Spex/Poly-Styrene, Malaria!/their legacy, Carambolage (only know-of since the reissues), etc. I would appreciate reading some literature on British group ‘Maximum Joy’. As well as Malaria! & that scenes legacy.

Pull quote from the translator in the Guardian:
"Translator Jen Calleja, a British writer and punk musician in the bands Sauna Youth and Monotony, taught herself German after moving to Munich aged 18 and embedding in the local DIY music scene. “I worked really hard for [the diaries] not to sound like a perfect literary product,” she says. “It’s really difficult to translate a text that’s not literary or perfect and make sure it really is representative of the voice of the person.”"

A followup interview with Jen would be great too.

Cultural criticism, no matter how insightful, reflects the biases and failed asperation of the critic. Are artists obliged to mirror arguments presented by people they've never met and probably be horribly disappointed with if they did?

On the same Suisse label as LiLiPUT (off-course) is a very different yet worthy album collection of music by GRAUZONE. Find the one with extra stuff.

Check out the very non-punk Suisse aesthetics of music created by Victor de Bros / Fizze (as well as Gilles Rieder / Dizze).
