I was privileged to see the Five Stairsteps w/ Cubie at the Tower Theater in Phiadelphia in 1965 as one of the opening acts for the headlining Temptations. My roommate and I were about to start our sophomore year of college and were the only white people in the audience(!). One of the other acts was Dyke and the Blazers doing "Funky Broadway"(did their version precede Wilson Pickett's?). There were a couple of other bands, but my memory fails me at this late date. Admission was 5 bucks, if I recall. Don't know how young Cubie was, but the whole family comprising the Stairsteps were all still young kids. And they were quite good, but had a relatively short career, compared to other "kid" bands like the Jacksons.

I was privileged to see the Five Stairsteps w/ Cubie at the Tower Theater in Phiadelphia in 1965 as one of the opening acts for the headlining Temptations. My roommate and I were about to start our sophomore year of college and were the only white people in the audience(!). One of the other acts was Dyke and the Blazers doing "Funky Broadway"(did their version precede Wilson Pickett's?). There were a couple of other bands, but my memory fails me at this late date. Admission was 5 bucks, if I recall. Don't know how young Cubie was, but the whole family comprising the Stairsteps were all still young kids. And they were quite good, but had a relatively short career, compared to other "kid" bands like the Jacksons.
