Probably my favorite filmed live performance of music is Tower of Power doing "What Is Hip?" and "You Ought To Be Having Fun" while opening for Santana on a Chicago-based TV show. It is findable on the usual spot for such things.

I once brought my friends a tray of daiquiris to the Tower of Power set at NOLA Jazz Fest RIGHT as "What is Hip?" started. That was really my pinnacle. All downhill since.

Leaving without saying goodbye, was once called a "French exit" after their 18th century custom. Then someone on the FMU boards said that they called that an "Irish exit". So perhaps, leaving without saying "goodbye".

2 separate distinct eras of Ultravox: The 1st 3 albums (glam punk era adjacent) featuring vocals by John Foxx and then after he left (w/others); Midge Ure joined on vocals for the Vienna album and it was very different synth pop from then on.

At least in my immediate circles it's expanded its meaning to any slip-out-quietly goodbye, even when (relatively! relatively!) sober.

I am an Irish American, but my drunk goodbyes usually consisted of a lot of incoherent verbiage, and sometimes included a marriage proposal -- if I was very drunk.

Yet … it appears that I’m almost the only thread 🤪
Ultravox continues: I love the 1st 2 albums most.
But “Systems of Romance” has an icy coolness that’s a worthy transition towards the more synth driven new wave era.
