He was the longest running BBC Radio 1 and the most influential British DJ ever. He was one of the first broadcasters to play psychedelic rock and progressive rock records on British radio, and is widely acknowledged for promoting artists working in various genres, including pop, reggae, indie rock, alternative rock, punk, hardcore punk, breakcore, grindcore, death metal, British hip hop, and dance music. Peel died in Cuzco, Peru of a heart attack on 25th October 2004 aged 65. '

My John Peel story took place in 1996. John was staying with friends on the Isle of Man for the TT races. One of them took the phone call that said his wife Sheila had suffered a brain haemorrhage and had to get John to take the call. Another friend flew back with John as he was in a bad way after hearu=ing the news.

There's a whole worldwide network of Esperanto speakers, and you join up and then you can go visit people and stay with them and they show you around. the only proviso is you have to speak Esperanto :-)

While on the subject of artificial languages, you should do a show on Finnigan's Wake. I think there is a recording of James Joyce reading parts of it. Also most of it is read aloud on Youtube with the accompanying text. Come to think of it, there is a film based on Finnigan's Wake (1968) directed by Mary Elllen Bute. It's available on Youtube.

There are several books on Esperanto. I haven't read them but a friend of mine reliably recommended Bridge of Words: Esperanto and the Dream of a Universal Language (2016) by Esther H. Schor.
