The internet is amazing for finding stuff like that; several years ago on my way to London I thought I'd attempt to locate an uncle's final resting place; he went down in a Lancaster bomber in WWII, and I found where he was in an astonishing 30 seconds! Took a train out there to touch base. His entire flight crew is planted, all in a row.

Punk in North America was a bit bullshit-y in general. No clue about social conditions in England that generated it, or how short-lived it was as a response, or how cushy North American kids habits of shopping for fashion were/are. Most people actually living anything like 'punk''s topical subject matter never got close to it. In California, a working-class base sort of translated it back into rock and roll, like the Blasters and X did, and in New York it was some kind of druggy death-trip art-fag fashion blow-out. It all turned into mass-marketing for cash pretty quick....and then the 80s got a lot like the worst of the 70s...somewhere in there a lot of good stuff got recorded and written, but the press labelled the shit out of everything as it does, and a person had to sort out all the distortions in some personal way. Meanwhile...life goes on...power steals everything, and not much really changes

I'm thankful for The Germs, and The Weirdos, and The Nuns and all that stuff...but it was a ind of teen rebellion in suburbia where people had a lot. Greg Araki's films show that a bit

Of course very few people had the inclination to look at with it with a truly critical eye. I lived in L.A. and had no money. It's hard to imagine from this remove what X and The Weirdos looked and sounded like compared to everything else.

I was heavily influenced by Pat Smear's second solo album. Quite the impressionable content

i believe it's the first recorded version to use that riddim, whether it's named after this track or not, i'm not sure...

You could say that the punk press at that time was a precursor to the chaotic stupidity of the internet today.

True. And the fear of 'punk', fomented by a press that was eager to exploit any idea that might sell newspapers (plus ca change...etc), echoed the horror of kids being exposed to rock and roll prior to that time...I'd been alienated, myself, almost since birth, inclined to be some kind of artist, in a remote paper-mill town, so whatever punk was or wasn't, it provided oxygen to breathe in between getting punched in the head by factory-fodder at school or getting relentless serious ass-kickings at home from my buzz-cut hippie-hating old man. It's all rock and roll and that's freedom of thought. Punk was just another name for nothin' left to lose...
