Even thru my ignorant Brötzmann's was a not wholly unfamiliar name - & it's clear his playing was muscular, the definition of endurance, committed & unrestrained. Seems fairly apparent also this was his personality - both momentous & unpresuming.

	10:37am Dean: Saw the Tentet at Victo. Kondo was mesmerizing there. One of the very best shows ever for me was Full Blast at a tiny storefront venue in Berkeley. Seated 50 perhaps, folding chairs. One of those shows where after two seconds you know the ride is going to be thrilling, and it was.

He talks about Vienna at the turn of the 20th century, Memphis TN in the 50's, London in its heyday, automotive Detroit, Los Angeles, Renaissance Florence etc. It's really fantastic, maybe my favorite work of history ever

	11:09am mic_a: Relating to that 30s LA immigration, I just finished Salka Viertel's memoir last week. It wasn't what I expected, but in retrospect I'm not sure what I was expecting. It's more of a family story than scene report, but still, all those early 20th century European intellectuals appear at some point on one side or the other of the Atlantic.

During pandemic he won a grant to travel to make field recordings. Haven't seen or heard from him since his departure.

He talks about Vienna at the turn of the 20th century, Memphis TN in the 50's, London in its heyday, automotive Detroit, Los Angeles, Renaissance Florence etc. It's really fantastic, maybe my favorite work of history ever
