Do you also visualize Internet addresses as being in spatial relationships to each other? One lecturer on mind stuff (voice sounded like Zero Mostel) said people commonly do that, and I know I do -- and I have no idea how I wound up placing them there in 3-D, but it's consistent.

I believe that's been called "intrapersonal space" - i.e. walking around your home in the dark by memory. However creative the mental architecture, FMU is conceptualized as a "center" and its constituent parts like angled "nodes" of the same building.

Hm. Not sure. FMU Programs with the Community & all def seem like 'Places'. Perhaps subliminally Spatial ? (...I meant ...you all have a Spatial place in my heart, of course...) So maybe. We speak of 'Places' on the web... faceborg initially felt like moving into a new little City & standing naked in the town square (I mean - also connecting me instantly with a dozen people from the West Coast I was missing, &tc. - the World's on there) ...whereas some rando cold clickbait site with, say, nutritional data seems very 2D...
What's interesting to me now saying this was the adjustments I've made to these situations. My first couple years taking space in FMU chats were a learning curve, quite frankly. I guess faceborg is a bit like Hight School too ...or a Town. Society itself...

Both citations and discursive notes.
Here's the project in question:
Annotated translation of a regional history of southwest China, completed ca. 350 CE. Fourteen chapters. Some geographic in focus, others political histories, and the rest biographical. Manuscript is over 1200 pages (double-spaced, including original Chinese text), with 5000+ footnotes. The task at hand is to separate those notes into three separate notestreams (1. footnotes that clarify the translation, 2. endnotes that discuss textual issues, 3 supplemental notes that contain all 5000+ notes of citation, commentary, etc for scholarly readers). Fun times!

As a publisher, let me tell you how much I quail at having to talk authors out of the footnote/endnote combo. It's incredibly difficult to typeset and translates really poorly to EPUB, which means it also raises a host of accessibility issues. One stream: back-of-book notes only. You'll be doing the editors, typesetters, and readers a favor!

i'm translating a modern critical edition published in 1986. the compiler of that edition was able to look at most of the oldest surviving editions of the text, and he collates those texts into his notes. many of those old editions have been reprinted, and I have copies of most of those, but my translation is really more a translation of his critical edition (no need to reinvent the wheel).

But, that makes looking for citations as you read that much harder, and less likely for the reader to follow up. This why i enjoy taking an hour to read a paragraph (which usually includes following footnotes and other rabbitholes as I get lost).

technically, "mandarin" is a spoken language. the text is in literary sinitic (aka "classical chinese"), which was the standard written language up until the 20th century. sorta the "latin" of east asia (japanese "kanji" are "hanzi chinese script; and korea used literary sinitic for all official writing up to the 19th century). it can be read aloud in mandarin, cantoneese, or any other spoken dialect, including korean or japanese, and the meaning remains the same.

For philosophical and spiritual publications I have, it can be easier to read through chapters and look up endnotes by chapter at the back later. It's helpful when mostly citations, though I prefer discursive notes at the bottom of pages in general.

Mainly the difference in lyrics and subject matter. You could say most "AltCountry" musicians started out playing as "their selves", and took up country sounds afterward.

Ed Sanders is an outright "performance artist", doing anything and everything over 6 decades, often building instruments himself!

"Scientific" study, polled the members of a Houston arts organization in the mid 90s on what they liked hearing in music, and what the didn't like in music.
