I've been to Dresden, some "historic" buildings weren't even attempted to be replaced until after the German reunification.

Similar with many other cities in WWII (like Warsaw), there's the "Old City" and "New City" from historic growth patterns, and the Old Cities were usually destroyed by bombing and rebuilt after, and the New Cities less so. So their "New Cities" are now older than their "Old Cities".

The "New Cities" tended to be late 19th-early 20th century buildings, nice built architecture and nice urban streets. The "towers in the park" are more on the "suburban" outskirts, since eclipsed by newer suburbs and commuting towns.

Le Corbusier has many interesting buildings in the photos I see - his postwar Marseille "Unité d'Habitation" is less brutalist and more like the style I often saw. In the former East Berlin the postwar housing resembles is comparable to other planned communities like Reston, Virginia - the insides were/are certainly not as nice as the West but the park like layouts remind one of that era worldwide.

wow, thanks for reminding me of the dream i had last night... i was sittng behind and FMU dj -- forget which, but will likely come to me -- and commented on the song played "in person"... was strange enough that i tried to remember it, but didn't until your comment (thrilling story, to be sure). i forget their reply but it also seemed to be in person (and not on comments).

related, i had a dream about commenters who haven't been around much... and in that dream the persons were represented by their usernames, as text. aday or two later, i saw them online again. weird-ish (i live in a vacuum). ok. shuttin' up.

That one came from R. Stevie Moore, who found it when he worked at Sam Goody in the late 1970s. They had a special: bring in a used cassette, get a new one at a discount. They were just tossing the used tapes in a bin, and Stevie fished out some gems.

G:

It’s simple. The term classic rock began to be used by radio programming-mode creators in the 80s for music from the Beatles through the 1970s, because radio programming-mode creators of the prior decade had already taken the term “oldies” to use for music from Elvis through the pop music of the 60s.

precisely. it was a marketing term and nothing more.
at least "aor" has something to do with the actual music...and possibly not invented as a marketting term.
