Yeah, I know B&B got revamped...I think in 2011? But yeah it didn't work out I think. With mainstream music I don't think B&B can work anymore as it did in the 90s.

What Don's trying to say is that the Teens 45s looked too similar. He just meant to play 1-2-3-4 Red Light, but he accidentally put the better known 45 in the playlist pile.
  4:03pm
Cheree July:

Becky, Victor's fine, but the fans like Don's drumming better because he's more 70's.
Avatar 4:05pm

He was clear about the song mix up. I didn't know that We'll have a party tonight nite was a better known 45. I had never heard any Teens until this show.

Really? I have mentioned I have around 6 thousand records when we were talking about collecting since childhood and what influeneced us along the way (Jaws interview conversation). But i didn't mean to indicate they are all junkshop glam. A long time ago all families had record collections. even poor ones like mine. Other families used to come over and listen to comedy lps for example.

I didn't hear any hand claps strangely. I will listen to it again more attentively. I think use of hand claps is so underrated in rock n roll music. The Stooges' "No Fun" uses it and so do many Jonathan Richman solo songs. I've always loved hand claps in songs.

My husband and I love it when the Ricky wilde song Hertfordshire Rock comes on this show or my youtube mix. We stop what we are doing and start clapping along. They are all real human handclaps done with much precision. People eventually used those clapping machines.

Yeah I forgot many modern songs in hip hop, R&B and trap genres (trap was a short lived genre in mid-late 2010s) use handclaps but they are ALWAYS those keyboard/electronic generated ones. They just sounds intrusive in the music at this point if anything. An actual live human handclap has a gentleness to it that I can get behind.
  4:48pm
Cheree July:

True dat, Mr. Oxford
Avatar 4:48pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Mr. Oxford @4:47
I agree. And it's impressive to see them used well like any percussion.

Avatar 4:52pm
Mr. Oxford:

I think back in the 80s and 90s those electronic handclaps sounded fine. I remember Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" used those. Several songs in 90s and 2000s too. But later it got tiring.
  4:52pm
Cheree July:

Now that I think of it, 70's Disco used a lot of hand claps & maybe the hand clapping/drum machines.
Avatar 4:53pm
Mr. Oxford:

↳ Debbie Davenport @4:48
I agree, sometimes in traditional Spanish or Portugese music some crazy rhythms are played impressively by human handclaps.
  4:56pm
Cheree July:

I noticed the ending chorus of the Groover by T. Rex with the hand claps sounded like a cheerleader chant. I was clapping & cheering to it myself.
Avatar 4:59pm
Debbie Davenport:

Hammond Organs had some handclap sampling in the late 60s, but it wasn't common in pop music. We have intenesely listened to Hertfordshire Rock over and over to see what we think the clapping source was. It isn't perfect enough to be a machine, and it's early for that even though it's the 70s. so maybe they recorded their own handclaps. It's been a long time since I talked about it in detail, but it stands out to me. Gordon was saying it had to be human too. sustained through the whole song somehow. Maybe I should hunt down samples of those early Hammond Organ claps.
Avatar 4:59pm
