Matt from S: I recommended to my son's Catholic school that they consider singing Guadete by Steeleye Span for next Christmas concert. I think kids singing it would really rip.....I tear up when I hear that song. Thanks, man.
Captain Beef Fart-when my wife is in Poland I work on the house every day until 8pm in the summer, but when its time to eat, it means time to binge watch Stranger Things and eat things only I like. AND desert. And coffee breaks in front of the TV also!
Charlies Records in Albuquerque has about 200-500 cassette tapes for sale. Why make your own frustration when you can pay a lot for it , used tapes! I HATED using cassette tapes they had an expiration date for me. Always eaten by tape players of all kinds. CDs are not much better. Should have stuck with records.

Generation Jones - that's a good term for the later 'Boomers' - some count them as a whole span, up to JFK/British Invasion, but the 60s portion hardly seems like the earlier Boomers. So it's a good term for the "vanguard" Xers. And in some cases the late 50s Americans who came of age after the Bicentennial.

I listened when I could pick it up 1995-1997 and then sporadically 2000-2014. It wasn't till 2015ish that we started working to get it to come in more often and figured out the bathroom boombox situation. Ah yes:

Quine’s efforts at landing a gig were fraught with frustration. He was bald, which in hyper-fashion-conscious mid-’70s New York was a major liability. He didn’t dress the part, was a decade older than many of his peers, and his sometimes caustic personality rubbed people the wrong way.

“He didn’t have a shag haircut,” Marshall says about Quine’s struggles finding work. “At one point, through mutual friends, he tried for a job playing with Art Garfunkel. He got drunk and told him he thought Simon & Garfunkel were for people too stupid for Bob Dylan. Garfunkel punched him in the nose.”

Maybe that's a result of the English 'r' being so soft to begin with. Evidently the original European 'r' from Ancient Greek/Latin was more like the harder "rolled-r" in Spanish 'rr' (sometimes written 'rh'). Whereas almost all Modern English 'r' is 'ɾ', the curved-r or upside-down-J in IPA (sometimes written 'er' or 'wr').

Blixa Bargeld was in the Bad Seeds at the time, and Perpetuum Mobile is also the name of an album by Einstürzende Neubauten, if you want more far-fetched connection

Likewise, I loved Bond's '73 Blaxploitation turn in general. The first time I learned about N'Orleans jazz funerals, as well.

Yep, James Bond fighting the Scary Black Guys Who Do Voodoo in Harlem is a fascinatingly low point for the James Bond series and that's really saying something.

The voodoo subplot certainly is problematic, though the rest of it was in vibe with other '73 zeitgeist.
