Not THE Archivist of WFMU's Past Playlist and Archives, just an enthused listener and searcher of past playlists and Archives, thus we're a "club" called the "Archivists" (or "ArchiviZts", sometimes?? That was a weird comment board...)

But Kenzo (KenzoDB) is the real man who built and maintains this playlist / archive system. Pledgeworthy in his own right!! ☺️

Found out about Andy Rourke on Friday' Really sad news. I really don't think he meant to keep his illness a secret from the world. But like any accomplished vet musician, he stuck it out and made the most of his last days count, as anyone would in his position.

Btw, I think safe to say we've all guessed what the theme of today's bonus hour is, in light of yesterday. Only fitting that The Damned chose this past weekend to release their new album.

Some of their early, "post-punk" releases veer into moody territory, possibly even "Goth". Some was not too different from this Fields of the Nephilim actually.

Jangly, Paisley for sure. Smiths - not as many "issues" 😉 but similar Johnny Marr type soundscapes making the rhythm tracks.

"The Unguarded Moment"!! That's kinda brooding lyrics, not quite "Goth". "Shadow Cabinet" has a vocal style that with a slight tweak could be influenced from Ian Curtis.

My fascination (I won't say knowledge) was the NeoPsychedlic Movement. But this was all PostPunk. Yerknow - were Bunnymen or PiL ever Goth ? Then when I got to SantaBarbara mid~late 1980s Goth was certainly a distinct thing with fashion-headed young women there...

NeoPsychedelia - more of the 80s movement, but an intriguing period of music, fashion, etc. Reuniting strands of Psychedelia and Punk that had diverged. Aesthetically they're very different, but have some common concepts (liberation - freeing minds and empowering people), going about different ways of realizing it. A decade (and two) after the originals, the legacies of both blended towards something new. Which further blended into "Alternative" rock currents into the present...

Woooo! 36 other Stars on this Siouxsie track!
