"Oh neat - a computer store", people would say back in those days

My friend had a C64 and really liked the game Potty Pigeon, where the goal was to poop on as many cars as possible, if I recall correctly.

Being a librarian, I've always thought there should be a video game that tests players' abilities to shelve books. Right? It could involve poop, too. I had to clean up a deposit in a public library where I worked some years ago.

(It has unfortunately become tragically Brooklynized in recent years, Lisbon has, like every other desirable large city in the worlds. In certain spots basically inaccessible, if not seriously outright hostile to locals, in fact. But there are still pockets of authenticity to be found, between the cobblestones)
  10:31pm
Dean:

Believe me, there are all sorts of shelving errors that are likely to occur. Really, the intensity could be hard for a lot of players to handle. "The fuck? You use Library of Congress, and I've been shelving according to Dewey Decimal?!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
coelacanth∅:

"the Fuck? you don't have ANYTHING by Kurt Vonnegut?
...oh wait i'm looking in K"
  10:42pm
Dean:

The very word "Brooklynized" saddens me. I see it here in Berkeley and in so many other cities. I've always championed underdog cities--St. Louis, Detroit, Richmond, CA, for instance. Because I live near Richmond and I have to take my kids there for sports and such, I see how vibrant it is, and I just want to spend a week there checking it all out. Not too many years ago the crime rate declined impressively, but that trend has reversed. Still, what an amazing city. The people, the places, the oddball neighborhoods...
  10:42pm
Dean:

Yeah, for Vonnegut, you need to find the fiction filed at J for Jr.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Sam Segal:

↳ Dean @10:42
I loved visiting Detroit back in 2016. Only driven through St. Louis. Stopped off for some superb ribs. Richmond, CA sounds great. I still have a lot of love for the small, under-dog(ish) city where I grew up: Minneapolis, MN.

Dean:

Can I request a song? Sutherland Brothers & Quiver, "Champion the Underdog."

I visited the Twin Cities once and had a grand time. Great restaurant at the time time in Minneapolis. A concert in St. Louis at which Joshua Bell was in attendance. Just marvelous.

Dean:

Show & Tell: In an art history course in college, c.1978, a course focused on Dada and Surrealism, I brought to class an early Cabaret Voltaire EP and played it in class, my point being the the namesake venue was so important to the Dadaists and that contemporary bands were tapped into that vibe.

I wasn't interested in getting my classmates to like the music. I wanted them to recognize the legacy of art production from Dada forward.
